Bill Babler Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Just got a call from Falcon that they are having a Fathers day promo. I don't know the exact amounts yet, but if you have a rod that you are interested in please send me a PM and I will get you the price as quick as possible. I might have to order them in. I do have a decent supply but need a reorder anyway, so if you have a rod in mind that your sweetie might want to get ya. Now is the time to let me know and I'll do my best to put it in your hands as reasonable as I can, for Dad's day. Good Luck rps, 96 CHAMP, magicwormman and 4 others 7 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
rps Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 When I don't make my own rods, I buy Falcon. I switched from Fenwick to Falcon when they first showed up at the Tulsa boat show more years ago than I actually remember. For all you guys learning to fish walleye, look at the new this year Falcon Low Rider Salt Ultimate Trout rod: (Power: ML; Flex: MS; Line: 8-14; Lure: 1/16-1/2; Length: 6'7") This would be a top of the line rod for trolling cranks, Lindy rig fishing, and worm harness fishing. For spoon jigging, you need a different model. If Bill is willing to order and treat you right, I don't think you'll find a better combination.
chi0082 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 How do Falcon's compare to St. Croix's spinning rods? I'm looking at a 7'6" med hvy fast action and Falcon's options seem limited. How much of a discount are we talking about too? My dad likes St. Croix's and has several, but if I can get a deal on a comparable Falcon, I may opt to go that route.

Other than Falcon quality is just hard to beat, here's the really big difference in the two ... if you tell Bill exactly what your dad will be doing with the new rod, he can fit one to your needs perfectly. Most of his clients use spinning rods so he knows exactly how to match the tackle to the lure/tactic they are using. 176champion, big c and mixermarkb 3
abkeenan Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I have both Falcon Rods and St. Croix. Both build a fine rod and you're really splitting hairs between the two in my opinion. I think the overall build of St. Croix is a little better with a nicer fit and finish but I think Falcons fish better. It all comes down to what you are going to be using it for like Champ said and getting one in your hands to feel what YOU like better. Can't go wrong with either in the end. Macsimus 1
Sore Thumbs Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 I have been using the heavy cover McClelland rod a lot. I find myself using it a lot more than my Cara Head Turner. Is the head turner more of an open water rod or do you use it on shallow cover also?
Sore Thumbs Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 What Falcon rod do you recommend for throwing a spinnerbait? I also have a medium crankbait Cara that I sent off to get replaced. I like the rod but the diameter is small. Do they make a crankbait rod that is thicker in diameter?
roy_eros Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Not sure if they still make it or not but I have a 7'3" cara reaction series deep runner crank rod that works excellently with larger cranks and also throws a rattle trap really well. I bought it about 6-7 years ago. mixermarkb 1
Champ188 Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 I use the Cara Reaction Series Swim Jig rod for my spinnerbaits these days. Love it.
Bill Babler Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 Sorry guys, I have just been covered up guiding. Thank you James for answering the questions. The Swim Jig rod is absolute excellent for anything 3/8, 1/2 oz. to 3/4 as far as the SB. I use the Micro Cranker and yes it is small diameter for 1/2 oz and under on the SB It also depends on your blade size. The Amistad is great in Micro for any size blade. If I had to only have one, Yikes!! for any size blade It would be the MMC-5F-172 Signature Micro at MH 7'2" 10 to 17 pound line and up to 3/4. It is pretty much M. McClelland version of the Swim Jig, only Dolled up and Microed. Falcon does not make a Spinning rod at 7'6" that would apply to your Father. When it comes to a diversity as far as spinning rod sizes, you are not going to beat St. Croix. Ab's also answered this just about as well as I could. The Falcons are most often going to fish better, but the fit and the finish of the SC is fantastic. The Falcons on the Signature Rods with the Copper inlays against the Black Blank are simply beautiful. As far as the discounts, email me or PM me for prices. Each rod has a different price and the discount to the dealers varied. I'll be more than happy to let you know what mine was. If you have a rod in mind let me know. I have a bunch coming in, and I already have at least 30 here at the lodge along with a few Pre-fished ones at very special prices. This has really been Ned time for me of late, and again, you are going to be hard pressed to beat the Kriet Squirrel Tail. My gentleman was from Kansas this past weekend and was fishing it on a St. Croix Legend Xtreme that he just paid $400.00 bucks for. He broke off and I handed him the CS-17M-T7. He slung the 1/8th. oz. Ned about 30' further than he had been casting all day and the fish must have caught it on the drop. He told me he would fish my rod the rest of the day. He landed this nice 3 pound LM on 5 pound maxi. He was throwing 6 pound carbon on his Xtreme, so that was not a real test. My junk was just set up better, but you get the drift. That is a $200 rod vs a $400 and to tell you the truth, the Falcon would eat it up. I was also really surprised by the weight of the Xtreme, it was just way heaver, of course with that handle it would be. He was super sad he did not buy a Falcon, but to tell you the truth, he said that was the first time he had even heard of Falcon, he goes North and that is for sure St. C. Country. Let me know and I'll do the best I can for you. Good Luck abkeenan and Champ188 2 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
