I only used a Dixie jet for bottom bumping a spoon Thanks, I will look for the old jet spoon, as I have found spoons to be very versital.

Members Nimrod Nick Posted June 13, 2016 Author Members Posted June 13, 2016 I enjoy the vertical spoon action in the rocks clear waters and I have caught just about every species of fish, usually 20' to 50' and many time's sitting over 100' plus. I believe the rock has some of the most talented vertical fishermen. I have some great days on the water while fishing with some good vertical spoon, grub & icebait fishermen and watch it happen on you're gragh is pretty cool. Seeing the fish & dropping to them is a great way to catch em fast especially in the summer and winter. I prefer night fishing the best but going vertical Shine's in the daytime many times all day. Spoons can be very versatile. Thanks for the replays. I'm always trying to improve tactics on my vertical fishing. dan hufferd, magicwormman and Champ188 3
Smithvillesteve Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Speaking of spoons. What is the difference between "jigging spoons" and "casting spoons?" I realize what the fisherman does but I never see anything on the package when I am shopping for spoons. I love the spoon bite, fish usually hammer the thing! But i have not done a lot of it. Sometimes i will vertically jig a spoon on Truman for hybrids. Thanks boys. Sorry Donna. And girls!

A jigging spoon is typically made of lead and is somewhat aerodynamic as it is meant to get down deep to depth somewhat quickly and then "jigged" up and down to elicit a bite. A flutter spoon is typically made of stainless steel or brass and has a cupped or concave shape to it that gives that "flutter" when sinking in the water. It has that wobble, side to side or even glide to it that jigging spoons do not usually and just drop somewhat haphazardly with little lateral movement like the flutter spoons do. Hope that helps. A couple of examples of jigging spoons for reference: Here are more typically "flutter" style spoons: dan hufferd, 96 CHAMP and magicwormman 3
Members Nimrod Nick Posted June 13, 2016 Author Members Posted June 13, 2016 Nice Pict's and we'll said. The 2 1/4" x 3/4oz spoon I was speaking of has a flutter spoon shape but is thick and heavy. It is a combo of a jigging spoon & a flutter spoon.
Old plug Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Really in the end use what works for you. I used to fish spoons mostly in the fall for feeding white bass and hybrids. While at the same time alway watching the bottom for tell tale signs of big catfish. Catching a 20 to 50 lb catfish on a 10lb test line is one of the great thrills of fresh water fishing. It does not happen often but it is worth the wait. Champ188 and 176champion 2
Bill Babler Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Dave hit it in the head. Probably a Strike King. Never Ever Heard of anyone that disliked the way a Dixie Jet Fluttered. Every guide I know here has a special t box full of them. They do however just love the Jet reeled slow across the bottom. I throw it for distance. Let it fall on a somewhat tight line. You just feel the thump. When they jump pull them toward you. Don't try and jam your rod tip in the water it does not work. Just stay really tight on them. They were jumping 4 to 5 jumps yesterday magicwormman, johnm and dan hufferd 3 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Smithvillesteve Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 As always excellent information posted here. Thanks very much. I just find it kinda interesting that the manufacturers dont list anything on the package. As far as jigging v casting or fluttering.
176champion Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I don't believe the jet spoons are made anymore...at least can't find them on google....you can find some on ebay though... I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
