miket Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 That is rough. Might want to try these at www.jigs4bass.com . These are built tough and use a Mustad Spinnerbait hook, 5/0
fishinwrench Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 I'm not convinced that a Spinnerbait being "built tough" is a good thing all the time. We've tried several "tanks" and they don't seem to get as many bites here recently. No bait lasts forever, you just gotta know when to retire it and get a fresh one.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Picasso's don't last long either but they catch fish!
Ham Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Thin wire equals maximum vibration, but it comes at the price of durability. I have an Uncle that used to fish a locally made bait on Lake Fork. He was catching BIG largemouth pre spawn on them. After each fish than say 7 lbs, he didn't trust that bait enough to keep fishing them. The bait may break on the next BIG one and he wasn't willing to take a chance on that. He weight in over 28 lbs in a 3 fish bass tournament on Lake Fork using the "Hill Billy spinner bait". I used the mand caught fish on them, but honestly I never thought they were all that. BUT freaking hook failure. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
miket Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 I agree with fishing-wrench when I am fishing..... I use a Spinnerbait made with small diameter music wire for maximum vibration. Do the wire break on these? Sure does.. I check the wire after each fish and look for bends and kinks and if it has them I replace the SB. I only make these on a custom request and if my customer doesn't mention I remind them "small dia. wire and breakage"..I don't put these in my catalog. Reason: unless they know this could happen then they only see it as a bad bait....just don't want that to happen!
Mitch f Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 You guys need to try Bo's spinnerbait. Lots of thought put into these, I love them. merc1997 Bo 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
fishinwrench Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 I'd sure like to try them.....bit dammit I'm Spinnerbait poor right now. ? Still no more broken hooks on War Eagles. I think I freaked out for nothing, but I sure could have used that 4lber I lost cuz I was well on my way to a 20#+ limit. ?

The only reason I didn't declare War Eagles junk was because I had about 20 of them and was forced to keep throwing them. And we were catching fish like crazy on a blade bite. The average guy that buys your baits is gonna form judgements, and if he breaks one on the first day you'll never sell him another one. Durability doesn't always parallel fish catch-ability. This isn't the first time that the best bait in my arsenal is the one that's about to fall apart. Good lesson there. I remember fighting fish rather gingerly because the lips on Poe's 400's were notorious for breaking. Throw anything else though and you may never get the bites.

Lots of thought put into these, I love them. it is possible to use a thinner wire and not break. these wire frames will last through many, many bass and not break. you never have to tune because of the design. you can change out head sizes and blades. plus, you can fish these through the middle of just about anything with very minimal snagging, and most often when it does, the hook is not hung, but the wire frame is wedged in a crack. the wire frame is only .032, but as can be seen in the video, can be stretched out straight as a string and goes right back to shape. even something as simple as the spinner bait wire frame can have better technology. bo Mitch f 1
