I'm leaving Friday for a week long trip to North Carolina.  Staying at lake lure outside of Asheville.  It's a family trip, but I've bargained a whole day to myself to go exploring with the hopes of finding and catching native brooks, browns, and bows.  If anyone has any pointers I'll gladly take them!  Places to fish as well as things to do with the fam too.

Going to fish the green river, the Rocky broad, and hopefully some streams here and there.  I've been hanging out at ncangler.com and trying to gather as much knowledge as possible, and hopefully I can land a few, and finally catch a brook.

Good luck on your trip. I haven't been to that part of NC, but have alwys heard how nice it is. In Wyoming I found brooks to be pretty skittish. I was successful drifting a bait down into the school as opposed to casting from down stream. That was probably due more to my poor casting spooking the fish with my fly line.

Thanks John,

I'm bringing both Fly Rods and Ultra lights.  I'm hoping for a hike in trip, and plan on getting to some harder to reach water which will hopefully increase my chances.  Also been researching Tiger Trout.  Apparently there are a few places where Browns and Brooks co-exist and occasionally will produce these beautiful fish.  I'm hoping for my first Brook with a native Tiger being the unicorn of my trip.  I'll work on keeping an active trip report going as well. :)

If you find a spot with tiger trout, I would love to hear about it if you are willing to share. They can have some really awesome coloration and patterning. Definitely a fish worthy of any bucket list. Good luck.

Thanks, and I will definitely be sharing!  Will try to do a day by day report again.  GoPro, phones, and camera are all cleared off and charged up.

First goal is just to catch a trout LOL.  I sometimes over think everything, and then remember to reset to the basics.

I saw a few other tiger trout pics from some of the guys over on ncangler.com. Which were just really awesome patterns. Almost fake looking.  I hear they raise them in Utah as a major sport fish, and have them in a few other states too.

Blue Springs Creek in Franklin County Missouri has all the 5 inch beautiful trout you want.

How do I know?

Because trout fishermen love their GoPros and want to share their love of catching colorful minnows for the world to see.

Thanks for your daily updates. And sharing. And pictures.

Today is Monday July 11 2016.

My son is a guide out of Bryson City N.C. and he says the hardest thing to get his clients to do is be quick and maintain line pressure. Says hard to believe how quick the brooks r. Enjoy! Look forward to ur reports. We r heading out there in October.

Great area...not to far from the smokey mountains which has some brookies in the higher elevations.  Bigger fish on the NC side for sure!

So fished the Green river yesterday. Aside from 1 smallmouth and a shad we got skunked on trout. Took a bit to get our bearings. Finally found a decent map as cell phones are useless up here lol. Trip report will be delayed until I can find some wifi. We boated lake lure today, but was family day. Not fishing day :).  Going to hit some feeder creeks and find some of those trophy minnows!
