dtrs5kprs Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 But not weedless...odd. I've made a bunch of micro jigs, but have never really done that well with them. Fall rate is brutally slow. It's like almost any other bait...if they are eating the cut stick you just can't beat it. abkeenan, crazy4fishin, vernon and 3 others 6
Champ188 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I'll stick with Dave's tried-and-true stuff. big c, motoman, Mitch f and 5 others 8
dtrs5kprs Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Micro jigs, with a hair jig and change for scale. I've used a little arkie type head with a traditional twin wire guard. Hooks are the tricky bit. The small Gamakatsu 291 in #2 or #1 is the absolute best. The do-it or mustad wacky head hooks will also work. I've always thought they should work better than they do. Seemed like a no-brainer, but hasn't been. motoman, Champ188, Mitch f and 1 other 4
Mitch f Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 yea, without a weed guard you waste too much time not fishing during the day. Champ188 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Champ188 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I'm with you, Dave. I've fished a lot of hair jigs with the little 101 spin frog on the back over the years and never gotten the results I thought I should. Ham 1

dtrs5kprs Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Just now, Mitch f said: Not sure why, they are killers on the rivers! Right on. I used to thump fish with a hair jig, the rubber or silicone version just isn't the same. It falls so slowly that I think it fails to look like a craw. I've run those trailers, various little plastics, and several Zman baits, or pieces of them. They will catch fish in little lakes on riprap dams and such. Mitch f 1
Mitch f Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Those ZMan heads seem like they would fall way too slow for my taste, exactly how you described. I work my jig very slow most of the time...but that's when it's already on the bottom!? dtrs5kprs 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
