Sucks to run out of gas.  Better half called on a Friday a few months back, broke down on a turn lane on a busy highway in 5'oclock traffic.  First thing I asked, when was the last time you filled up?

4 Runners don't just die like that.  Grabbed a gas can and prepared to hunker down to keep from getting hit.  Luckly, local PD was on scene and blocking traffic for me while I poured a gallon of gas in and got her going.

It's not that 4 Runners are perfect, their gas gauge sucks.  There is something hinky with the attitude adjustment on the thing, it does not register correctly.  They tried to build in a feature that reads on inclines and other angles.  It does not work right, should just have a regular float.

I really like to start a trip with a full tank. I've played the out of gas game before. I did not like it much. It has never been my fault that put me there, but that doesn't make it suck less.

Wife calls me and says Windstar wont start.....she was at work..... i said what the gas gauge say she says just above empty ... so i throw 5 gallon gas can in my van and run over there to see that she was parked on a hill sideways and it was enough of an angle the gas was moved away from the fuel pump pickup so i dumped about a gallon in it and it started...when on level ground gas gauge showed a little under 1/4 of a tank which was usually about 5 gallons in it...

Running your tank low is not good for your fuel pump either.  The fuel is what keeps it cool.

Nope not good for it at all for it..especially if you run it dry...

No argument,  The operator did not intend to run out of gas, but it happened just the same.
