MOPanfisher Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Ben, I would suspect it had more to do with the fact that it was an unusual request and no body truly knew the answer or exactly what hoops you would have to jump through. In my mind I see the exchange, explanation of what you want to do, with a resins of, that's a cool idea. Awesome what sort of permit do I need? Hmm I have no idea. If it isn't addressed in one of the many plans, programs, or manuals then someone has to decide if it is even within their purview and if so exactly which purview (real estate, regulatory, operations etc.) And then run it by that division to see what hoops might be involved. In the end you stuck it out and came out with a really cool information system that I can guarantee some of the folks in the COE check regularly. I am guessing in the end you had to go through the MSHP since it is a buoy based system, otherwise I doubt the COE would give it a moments worry unless you wanted to use on of their buoys, in which case they would probably want you to take over the maintenence of that buoy. Unless it is a commercial operation where you charge for the information, then it becomes a completely different game. Champ188 and vernon 2
Nitroman Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 As I stated, I will change my opinion when they are deserving. Let's look @ just 1 area of their job performance. Ask them, what is your primary area of concern, #1 on your list of responsibilities ??????? They all get a glazed jelly donut look in their eyes & answer " FLOOD CONTROL " !!!!!!! Well JESUS CHRIST, where at, CANADA, SAUDI ARABIA, ISRAEL, ITALY ??????? It sure as hell ain't TABLE ROCK !!!!!!! I have been through more floods with these clowns than I care to remember. And they were not " ACT'S OF GOD " !!!!!!! They were acts of complete & total stupidity on there part. Anyone who is not aware, GOD DOES NOT CONTROL THE FLOOD GATES, THE USADOE DOES & THEY HAVE NOT FIGURED IT OUT YET !!!!!!! How many lives ( HOMES & RESORTS ) on lake TANEYCOMO have they ruined & destroyed through their complete lack of caring & gross incompetence ??????? Owning & operating a resort on lake TANEYCOMO use to be a great life style with the promise of a good satisfying retirement. The USACOC by themselves destroyed that dream for many. Property values are 1/3 of what they were & just try to get a loan from a bank to purchase property there. SO, their grade in the #1 area of their responsibility " A GREAT BIG FAT F " !!!!!!! Is there a lower grade available. Go ahead change my opinion, to do so you must prove me wrong The worst part of the whole thing is the same useless morons have kept their jobs & we pay their salaries after they have caused millions of dollars in damage. OK, you screwed up once you deserve a 2nd. chance. Do it a 2nd. 3rd. & 4th. time. You should not only get fired, you should be taken out behind the barn & put out of your misery. Is our gene pool not screwed up enough ??????? Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide
MOPanfisher Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Nitroman, Branson is still there, if not for TR and "flood control" it likely would not be. You also mistake the concept of flood control for the total control of a natural environment. That ain't gonna happen. I hear the refrain a lot about how the COE flooded the lake, well that is exactly what it is supposed to do, a dam doesn't protect the property upstream of it. How many heavy rains and possible flood events has TR stopped cold that would have caused major damage in Branson, those sudden raises of say 8 feet or so that nobody remembers or thinks twice about. tapout and vernon 2
Jerry Rapp Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 this is a good post. As a retired COE engineer whose duties included Water Control Management, the objective was if every type of user was disgruntled, then you are doing a good job. There is such a balancing act between uses of a MULTI PURPOSE lake that no one will ever be happy all the time. And by the way, The WATER CONTROL PLAN for all COE lakes are congressionally approved. vernon, MOPanfisher, Champ188 and 1 other 4
Nitroman Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I am sure all the people on TANEYCOMC will believe your " BS " !!!!!!! Cause you sure as hell just changed my mind. How many have you talked to ? Flood the lake, & destroy personal property, was not aware that that was their goal. Let's not worry about the millions of tax dollars wasted or lives & businesses destroyed.. SO it's, protect Beaver, protect Bull Shoals, we can't allow Bull Shoals to flood to many houses & people there, so screw Table Rock & Taneycomo You own property on either or both. Didn't think so. But that's OK, as you are nowhere close but declare yourself a source of knowledge on Table Rock. Next time I need info. " YOU ARE GONNA BE MY SOURDE " !!!!!!! And till that time comes I am going to work on becoming an expert on Pomme de Terre Lake. Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide
Nitroman Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Not going to waste my time responding to " THE OBJECTIVE WAS IF EVERY TYPE OF USER WAS DISGRUNTLED THEN YOU ARE DOING A GOOD JOB " !!!!!!! But I guess you speak the truth as It seems like they go out of there way to accomplish just that. Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide
Rodmaker Posted August 31, 2016 Author Posted August 31, 2016 Boy, I sure opened up a CAN of worms. I just wondered If there was some sort of " normal" drawdown. I guess not. I have a buddy that has a place on Lake Hamilton in Arkansas. In talking to him, he says they start drawing down the lake on a specific date....... like November 5th.(guessing on date). They take it down about 12', and there it stays till spring. His dock is out of the water all winter.(not a floater). I guess₡ I just figured there was some rhyme or reason to it. I'll be down there on my annual trip in a couple of weeks. I'll be in a blue and white hurricane deck boat sitting on the bow with my trolling motor. Stop and say Hi if you all see me. I would enjoy meeting some of you folks. 2 1/2 years to retirement and I should be down there for good. Can't wait!

And I get it. They are not going to risk their jobs by giving out OK's that could land them in hot water. I think they do a fairly good job, given the red tape they're faced with... Would you risk a pension 3 times the size of a teachers??? Hey Ben, I'm a big fan so please don't take this the wrong way. However, after 32 years of government service my pension is 25% of my high three year's salary. I know many retired teachers and ALL of them draw a considerably higher pension than I do. The only "equalizer", if you will, is that I qualify for social security benefits and some of them do not. That being said, neither of us is sipping umbrella drinks in the Bahamas! MOPanfisher Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Nitroman, I am not trying to convince you of anything. Expert on Table Rock, nope, did work there for the COE so am quite familiar with it. I am merely trying to provide you information on how some things work. I am curious did you have a house on TR that got flooded? My family doctor (who recently retired) owned a house on Taneycomo and we had several conversations on water levels, releases, flood control etc. And I am sure that the businesses on Bull Shoals and Beaver might disagree with your sentiments on how they get preference over Table Rock when it comes to flood control, every time there is high water there they say it's to protect TR. You are certainly welcome to come up to Pomme and become an expert on anything you might wish to. I will even buy you lunch and we can cuss some of the things the COE does together. Here on OA I am not a representative of the COE, just a guy who likes to fish, but I do try to provide information from a different viewpoint. vernon, magicwormman and Champ188 3
