I was fishing tonight off points of the main lake.  I caught a few including a 17.5 inch walleye but here is the better story.

About 9 pm. I'm working a main lake point in about 35 ft of water which is about one long cast to the bank.  I can see a boat heading towards me at some distance.  As the boat gets closer I turn on my navigational lights just in case they can't see the anchor light.  I have a light on my cap so I wave it as well.  The boat continues straight towards me and slows to about 10 mph.  The boat had some lights mounted high that were blinding me.  I'm thinking I'm gonna get a fishing license check or a boat safety check but they pass by me between me and the bank.  With all the blinding lights I can't see their boat so I'm still thinking they are going to turn and I'm going to get checked.  But no, they continue on but as they get past me here comes the big wake.  It was a wake boat.  You can't make this stuff up.

You gotta wonder how some of those folks don't knock off their lower units.  Seems like some think if it is water it is deep enough to run in.

The amount of people that ran across point 7 two weeks ago within about 50 yards of the point astonished me. The long string of buoys apparently isn't enough of a clue to stay the heck away. One fairly large cabin cruiser plowed right across in what had to be less than 5 FOW.

Bobby b...  Sorry this happened to you and glad you or the DA boater weren't hurt. As TR moves closer and closer to the ways of LOZ, expect more incidents like this. The past 4-5 summers have become increasingly worse with DA boaters. When you say "wake-boat".... was he pulling a boarder at 9:00 p.m. using his lights to show the way?  Law is on the books already for pulling 30 mins after sunrise and before sunset (I think).

All the more reason to be skeptical when Matt Waltz of the Missouri Waterpatrol believes a "No Wake within 100' of the dock" sign on a dock will keep DA boaters off the docks rather than a buoy. Maybe we should all get signs and put them on our boats to keep people away from our boats. Never mind, I'm guessing that will be the next proposal from the water patrol.  Out of curiosity, what is the law on being on plane near another boat, anchored or not?

No, he was not pulling a boarder at night but it was a wake boat (inboard motor) and when the wake hit me I knew he had his ballast full due to size of the wake.

My dock is the last one on North Indian and we have a big no wake sign plus 5 buoys between us and the adjacent community dock and yet they fly down down the cove and what is worst yet for them is that the cove is full of slightly submerged trees just under the surface - now at the current lake level they are starting to be visible.

Before my retirement when I would hear stories like this, I would wonder if it was an exaggeration, but now that I'm on the water nearly daily, I can see that they do truly " walk among us" as Champ said above.
