Got off to a late start Tuesday morning thanks to a case of cranial-rectal insertion --- i.e., I discovered 20 miles from the house that I'd left my wallet at home. Lost well more than an hour fighting morning rush traffic to go home and retrieve my wallet. Finally arrived at Big M around 8:30. Checked out several hunches over the next 6.5 hours and all produced a few fish, just not any good ones.

End result was I caught a dozen fish on drop shot, shaky head, spoon, squarebill and spinnerbait. Had one for-sure keeper, lost a pretty good fish in a dock slip and had one other maybe-keeper. Depth range was 1-40 feet. Typical late-summer fishing ... summer here and summer there. Gotta work for 'em unless you're one of the few who go right to 'em and start pounding 'em every trip. That ain't me. I'm a grinder.

You must have been grinding after them if you were using a drop shot, not one of your favorite techniques to use if I remember you quoting before. We are all just buying time waiting for fall and cooler weather to get out after them, thanks for the report Champ.

Thanks for the solid and honest report.  I get so used to Lily double checking everything that I screw up when I go alone.  (But never tell her that;)

Had hoped to head that way today but work got in the way, again.

I had to rub my eyes for a second when I saw Champ mentioned fishing the Drop shot.  Couldn't believe what I read.

Is the drop shot considered a last resort at TR or something, or just not Champs style?

I was at TR a few weeks ago with the family around the Kimberling City area. My trolling motor went out so needless to say my fishing was very hampered. A guy in the slip next to me was talking about using full size 8" trick worms for the drop shot. Whats your normal drop shot bait Quill?

Drop shot just isn't my preferred style, Mitch. But right now it's probably the very best way to get yourself bit. I was using a little 4-inch Yamamoto Cut-Tail worm.
