Jerry Rapp Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I know Missouri's sports teams have sucked lately, as well as MU in general, but to run up the score to 79-0 against a lower division patsy is no way to re-create your image.
moguy1973 Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 What I want to know is why they are playing Delaware State in the first place. I'm guessing DSU gets lots of $$$ from Mizzou for agreeing to play in a game like that. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Al Agnew Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Yeah, after they put up 30 points before the first quarter was over, they should have put in Zanders and all the subs...but Zanders would have gotten 400 yards rushing against that team. Maybe they should have brought him in to work on his passing game. On the other hand, I'm not sure that the coaches knew WHAT to do. You don't want to tell your guys to dog it or let them score some points. If you are playing, you don't want to just take it easy, especially if you're a sub, you want to show everybody what you can do. All it is is a glorified practice, but you don't want the players getting sloppy and developing bad habits. Yeah, they probably shouldn't be playing a team of that caliber. But everybody in the SEC and other power five conferences does it. It just so happened that the sacrificial lamb Mizzou worked out a deal to play was even worse than most of the other cupcakes. First time I've ever seen a college game shortened because of some kind of mercy rule. The second half quarters were only ten minutes apiece. Who knows, maybe they'll put up 79 on LSU next week Foghorn 1
stlfisher Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I knew someone would complain about this. Lol. The quarters were shortened to 10 min in the second half as agreed to by both teams. Played no starters and threw 1 maybe 2 passes in the second half. Not much else you can besides take a knee for two quarters which would be worse. Kids that never see the field are gonna play hard no matter the score.
joeD Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Delaware State is a Division 1 team. Their university was paid handsomely to come to Mizzou. Yes, it was a beat down. On the other hand, the players at Delaware State were able to travel and play against a top level program in a big stadium on national TV . Something they don't experience in their league or on a regular basis. No one likes to lose, especially lose big. But at least these "lesser" teams had and have the opportunity to play against stronger opponents. I think the Davids of the college athletic world wouldn't have it any other way. Competition is competition. There is no reason to feel sorry for, or anger against, supposed mismatched teams playing against each other. It's what players want. And so do we. stlfisher 1
moguy1973 Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Looking back at DSU's previous seasons it looks like the previous couple of coaches had pretty good records, enough to even with the MEA conference title a couple years. I wonder what those those teams would have done against Mizzou. This current coach has a record of 1-12 now over the past 2 seasons so they are in a rebuild phase it seems. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Quillback Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I don't want to watch mismatched teams play at all. I really wish NCAA football would change the rules so that FBS teams play against only other FBS teams. To call this "competition" is ridiculous.
Smalliebigs Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 One thing for sure after seeing Georgia barely beating Mizzou it's obvious that the loss to Georgia was not some sort of good loss or moral booster because Georgia sucks and was massively over rated. ....Olde Miss could have beat them 80 to 0 if they wanted to. Mizzou has a long way to go to be a good team...they are gonna get trounced by any legit team.
Flysmallie Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 These type of games is the main reason I don't like college football. Once again they are more interested in a money grab than creating better players.
stlfisher Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Deleware St. was paid $525,000 to play the game which is probably essential to survive these days. This particular game was scheduled when Mizzou left the Big 12 and needed to fill a spot that opened up.
