ozark trout fisher Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Well, my time roaming Ozark creeks on the regular, and realistically, this awesome forum, has just about come to an end. I've accepted a wonderful opportunity in central Indiana that will allow me to help preserve and learn about the natural resources the Ozarks have made me love so much. There will be creeks and hills and smallmouth there too, but I'll always miss this place, and I intend to come back and visit the Bourb and Little Piney every chance I get. And there are still a few weeks until I have to leave, so one guess where I'll be this afternoon. Its gonna be tough to leave those streams and those hills behind. Bill Butts Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Hey OTF! When you get settled in Indiana, I would suggest looking up Derrick Filkins at Flymasters of Indianapolis, a very long-standing shop in Indy. Derrick is a great friend who grew up in Springfield and will understand your perceived pain of leaving our great Ozark region. He and his crew can give you some orientation to your new home area, I'm sure. God's speed! Bill BilletHead 1 Bill Butts Springfield MO "So many fish, so little time"
stlfisher Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 OTF, Good luck to you in Indiana and on your relocation. The Ozarks are not that far away. We will need some reports from your new stomping grounds.
Gavin Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Happy travels! Have enjoyed your posts, and wish you the best of luck. There are some pig beast smallmouth in Indiana if you look for them. If you can fish here you can fish there.
ness Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 You can still come here and bloviate flowerly though! Seriously, best of luck in your new endeavor. John

From what I have seen some Indiana streams with marginal habitat produce smallies like the best stretches of our best streams. I'd like to know more about it. ozark trout fisher Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 Thanks. Chief, the offer is much appreciated! My life will be pretty insane between now and the time I leave, so I don't know that I'll be able to take you up on it, but thanks! I'll admit I've already got a long list of places I want to fish, and luckily, the nature of my work will have me spending time in various parts of the hill country of Indiana and southern Ohio on the regular, where I'm pretty sure there are some smallmouth calling my name. Those places seem awfully pretty, and blessedly have a resemblance to the Ozarks that might hold off the homesickness. I also don't hate being within weekend-trip distance of Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. That said, its still just five-ish hours back to the Ozarks, so I imagine I haven't casted my last line on the Current or Little Piney.
Johnsfolly Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 OTF Good luck on the new job and the move. Always a nervousness and excitement about going to live somewhere else. If you have read many of my posts you'll know that I have lived in a lot of different places both within and outside of this country. All that I can say is take advantage of what each place has to offer. Learn something new and fish for something different. Tell us about your latest Great Lakes salmon catch or a north Indiana steelhead or even a White river carp within the Indianapolis city limits.
