moguy1973 Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Bassmaster#1 and I put in at Redhorse access early yesterday morning in his jet boat and headed up 4 miles or so in search of some smallie action. With the elevated river levels and flows they weren't really participating with us though and we only caught a couple. Heading back down river after we stopped just down from the Indian Creek confluence we saw another boat coming up river towards us. I noticed it was a River Pro even from afar and soon realized it was Hog Wally. Introduced ourselves and he kindly asked if it was OK if he fished in front of us. We obliged since we hadn't been catching any and we were just about ready to head down to take out and head home. Had a short conversation with him and he gave us some advice about his home stretch of the river and gave us a few craws to try out. Great stand up guy and it was great to meet him. And that boat he has is a beast, my dream rig right there. Too bad they are so $$$ and usually can't be found used. trythisonemv, Mitch f, timinmo and 1 other 4 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Unfortunately today was the pick day for fishing . But I decided to hunt. My buddy tore em up spinnerbait and craw. They were still spread out all over the river as they have been of lately.

With the low water the last few weekends we have been hammering them on soft plastics around wood with current. Yesterday, I caught them all over. I ran down to cut grass and couldn’t resist throwing the Blazer in for a few hours because the river was so beautiful. After rising earlier in the week and now falling, I was afraid they would shut down. I was wrong. I caught about 20 in a few hours of fishing including some dandies. Everything was caught on soft plastics once again but this time they were all over. Caught my best one, a beautiful 18.5”er, in the middle of the current as I was swimming the bait back to the boat. It would really be hard to fish anything else right now with all the leaves. I tried a spinner bait for a bit but gave up quick because of the leaves. And also agree Arron is a great guy. He and I fish the same water all the time, (except he runs a lot farther than I do) and he has always been helpful and volunteered info whenever he has it. These pics are from yesterday and last weekend when my son was with me. In the one pick we had a nice double so I held the fish while my son took a pic. All smallmouth were released like usual. We did keep some green ones to filet. Greasy B, Daryk Campbell Sr, MOFishwater and 4 others 7
Hog Wally Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 I just went out and it was stellar. Bite was crAzy.
Al Agnew Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Argh!!! You guys are killing me. Still a couple weeks before I get back to MO. Fished yesterday and did pretty well on the Yellowstone, but I'm ready for some late fall smallmouth fishing. Hog Wally 1

It was nice to meet the famous Hog Walley in the flesh Saturday. Thanks again for the advice on the Walleyes and really appreciate giving us a few of the craws to try out. Looking to get back out this weekend, but trying to decide between bow hunting or fishing. That boat of yours is truly a beast.
