What's Cooking for Thanksgiving?

Our family gathering is a combination of the Norman Rockwell image and David Sedaris’s family, great fun and never a dull moment.

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

Mine is not even close to Rockwell. Going to be a strange year for a lot of reasons that aren't so great. My wife and I are providing everything for family members that aren't exactly welcome at the traditional thanks giving dinners. Not saying they would be turned away but it wouldn't exactly be comfortable for them. My place will have a more relaxed atmosphere. And some football!!

And I'll be rocking this shirt to make my wife proud. I know it's not the right holiday for the quote but at some point during the day my girls will have Christmas Vacation playing.

At this point, I have the queso made and in the refrigerator, the pumpkin cheesecake is in the oven, and the spinach dip is made. The turkey is brining/thawing in salty water mixed with grade B maple syrup. The daughter will make lasagne for this evening and then I will put together the breakfast strata for tomorrow morning to tide us over until the afternoon bird is served.

All is well in hand.

I may have altered my plan some.  Checking out the local store, and they have a Standing Rib Roast that simply screams Prime Rib.  If still there tonight it will be the main guest at my table tomorrow.  And maybe a pouch of potatoes and onions on the grill.  Few folks gives you lots more freedom to choose.  So not being a big turkey fan, I will take the prime rib or steaks where possible.

Well sounds like you all are set up for tomorrow. Mrs. BilletHead and I will be chasing ducks and geese in the AM. Not sure what we will eat maybe a duck or two? My Mom, our Son and his tribe will be here Saturday for our Thanksgiving. Daughter in Law and grand kids have requested turkey and noodles. Of course that will be with a mountain of mashed taters. There will be dressing, cranberries, sweet potatoes and all those fixings too.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and save room for dessert,

Personally, I think the Murphy Oil Soap adds too much of a petroleum flavor.

  Ahoy Mate,
