for getting ripped off. sorry this is not fishing but have to say something. my debit card has been compromised and they got $1000, all of it spent in canada. I've never been or ordered anything from canada. my banks fraud department is handling it now.    went into shock when I checked my account online today

That happened to me earlier this year, Jim. Sorry to hear that. You've had enough hardship lately. Hopefully your bank will resolve it.

Jim, sorry to hear that. I'm sure the bank will take care of it. I have my debit card set up with notifications to my iPhone and email every time money goes in or comes out of my account. Not sure it will prevent attempts.

   It may not prevent attempts, but the quicker you alert the bank, the better chances of getting it resolved in your favor.

That's why I use a credit card instead of a debit card.  I've had fraudulent charges on my credit card 3 different times and didn't have to pay a dime. The fraud department for the credit card company picked up on the fraudulent charges before I realized they were even made and took care of it.....

Sorry for your inconvenience. Better lock up your credit, file a police report, get an ID theft pin from the IRS. Fullz-Slang for full identity info-Name,addy,ssn, mother maiden name,etc. only sell for a dollar or two each amongst the criminals on the dark web. Once they have it, it gets sold again, and again, and again.

That's a bummer. Hate to hear that. Had it happen to me about 5 years ago when I used to bank with BOA. They were good about resolving it and putting the money back into my account. Was only about $400 but it was still annoying getting new cards, pins, having to re-do all your online payment stuff, etc. My fraud was 2 debit charges in Germany at a Shell station. Pretty sure my card was compromised at a gas pump outside Macon GA while traveling when I entered my pin. Since that day I have NEVER used my pin at a gas station pump and haven't had any issues.

I've got a good friend that's a bank vice-president and has been for almost twenty years (darn president refuses to die!).  He told me quite some time ago to NEVER use a debit card.  He tried to explain all the reasons to me that credit cards were the way to go but, quite honestly, I didn't care about all the details.  I trust his judgement enough to just take his word for it and have never possessed a debit card.

My wife and I have had our credit cards hacked at least a half dozen times between the two of us - most recent was a $8700 spending spree in Europe in June - and like Micropterus we have never paid a penny toward the fraudulent charges.

I also like the 3% - 5% cash back that most cards provide.  In fact, when I bought my new Ranger in March I charged $20000 of it to one of my credit cards and received over $700 in cash back.  We pay them all off at the end of each month so interest is not a factor for us.  Like with debit cards, if we ain't got the money to spend, we don't spend it.

However, my brother insisted on using debit cards and learned his lesson the hard way.  His card was compromised earlier this past year and I believe it ended up costing him around $400.  Needless to say, he ain't got one no more either.

Don't have much choice when you don't have a credit card, so have to use debt card...i dont have a credit card cause i have no credit..
