WeekendWarrior Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 We skip boat docks here at LOZ quite a bit and for me I use a old Chronarch 50 mg. Here is what 5bites said awhile back when the subject came up and this is a great skipping reel as to what he is talking about. I use 17 and 20 lb fluoro with very little backing as the reel spool is shallow and it works perfectly FOR ME. Shallow light spools start up quick and that's what you want. Not only that, they stop quick when the lure stops moving. They don't have the inertia of a heavy deep spool that keeps going after the lure stops whatever the reason may be. Mitch f and MOsmallies 2

abkeenan Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Haven't tried this but I have heard of guys using electrical tape on their spool at about 25 yards into your line. Supposedly keeps the backlashes from getting deep into your spool and you can still keep your normal amount of line on your reel. Alex Heitman 1

Just don't use too much, you can pop it free and pick it right off with your fingernail when you want to.

Not sure I would want to start putting super glue on my line, in the spool or get it near my baitcaster internals. Tape is a lot less permanent or hassle free. In other words I need idiot proof stuff. big c 1
fishinwrench Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Well the gel stuff is real easy to control, and works better than a slimey piece of soggy tape, but suit yourself.
Mitch f Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Skipping is something I suck at, and am the first to admit it. If I lived at LOZ, (which is where I plan on retiring ?) I would be a jig skipping fool. There is a scene with Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway, where he has trouble spearing a fish from a very close distance. Then the scene fast forwards to him with a long beard and he's spearing fish from a great distance on the first throw without missing. That's what I would envision being like at LOZ after a couple of years ???? MOsmallies and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
