Decided I'm not going used and going to order a new trout boat this winter/spring.  Stopped at BSBD Friday and looked at the units they had outside.  Sad to see them with 4" of water frozen in the bottom of brand new boats.  Do they discount the holdover units or would it be the same price to just order new?  Saw the Top Water boats.  I was not familiar with them but they looked to be a better fit and finish than the Shawnee and Supreme on the interior.  Exterior glass finish looked very comparable.  I'm completely open to brands.  Would like opinions on which you would order if you had a blank piece of paper.  Are they all pretty much the same and same price - just pick which you like best?

Also leaning towards a jet unless someone can convince me the leaf sucking issue doesn't offset the skinny water capability.   Saw they had some mercs and yamahas, both 30 and 40hp.

Again, what would you choose?  I think the 30 would be plenty adequate but don't know.  On jets - Yamaha or Merc?

Just my 2 pennies, my next trout boat will be a Topwater 50" bottom with a 25 Merc jet.

If I wasn't worried about HP restrictions on certain rivers I would likely go 60/40 yammy

What are the restrictions you're talking about specifically?

I've been thinking about upgrading to a 40 jet for a while, if I pull trigger I'll keep my 20 just for the occasional trip to the restricted rivers.

I have a 9.9 for buffalo I really like the tohatsu as it's 2 stroke with 40 power head it's a lot stronger than my merc  25/20

I just went through this and decided on a topwater 2150 with a 60/40 mercury jet. I was originally leaning towards a supreme but all the guides that I talked to convinced me topwater was the boat to get. Plus in my opinion it is a much better looking boat than the supremes. Fit and finish on this rig is great and topwater has the jet rigs figured out. They run much flatter especially when fully loaded. I'm a big fan of the jet and think it's advantages far outweigh the negatives. The 60/40 might be a little more than is needed but you certainly won't be under powered.

I am guessing the restrictions for the 11 Point and upper Current come from the US Forrest Service since I couldn't find anything on the MDC site.

Anyone know how they rate the horsepower, especially for older outboards with aftermarket jet drives installed?
