I had some time off this week and did some hunting with my son and my uncle.

I scouted some areas Monday and met up with my uncle on Tuesday and scouted some more. Honkers everywhere, not so many quack quack.

So we decided to head to Schell-Osage and try to draw. We forgot that the North Zone closed the day before! It was packed! We had Dylan pick the pill and a poison pill it was. There were 55 parties vying for 33??? spots. He drew 53. See ya later.

So we head to Truman. Not a lot of action but Dylan did score one drake Mallard. And what was really cool about that was after he shot it, he looked at me and said "I should have let you shoot that." A complete roll reversal of a father-son conversation.

He said that because I had picked up a 912 Veriomax this year and had just got a choke for it and hadn't shot it yet. I just smiled great big at him and said don't worry a thing about it. He can take all the shots he wants!

The next day we went to Stockton to see what we could stir up. Not much. A handful of Mallards but not reall workable. Most had other ideas and the others would look but not commit.

I did have one Goldeneye come in. He left in a bodybag. We called it about 11:00 and went to town for some grub and drifted back home.

You did well.  Sounds like a great day.   Good luck with the new gun.

Chief - Love to hear folks spending time with family and friends. Thanks for the report. I love the pictures they tell the story as much as the text!

We were at Schell Wednesday morning as well, drew 26. We only shot greenhead, so you didn't miss out on much. The birds would work and lock up, but then land just out of range past the decoys.

Good job Chief, it is always a good time when you get to hunt with your son!!!!

"I should have let you shoot that".  I'm betting that will echo for a long time.  With luck, until your dying day.  Rarified country there.

Thanks fellas. We have enjoyed 18 years of hunting, fishing and camping. And we're going for a 100 more!

You are spot on Rick! That memory will live with me forever! And it will be shared over many campfire meals!
