Last year saw deer every night I was there. No otters though. But iI am just a City Boy, might not recognize an Otter. My advice to you is look but do not approach or feed te cute thing. i tyou need to understand about they over populate and become a nuisanse. In some cases ( armadillos )they do extensie damage and carry disease. In some instances playng and trying to feed themcan be dangerous. If a doe is with fawn and you come into the area chances are she will just with her fawn. The again she might rare up anf come at you with those front g

I am forced to exercise aminal control on a regular basis. If I do not they can do thousannds of dollars worth of damage to my property. As far as deer watching goes be careful, especally in spring when does are running ariund with those tiny fawns. If it happens that she should mis iminterpert your intentions. She could rear up and beat you about the head and shoulders ino a bloody pulp windmill fashion withot warning. Terrierman 1

SpoonDog Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 We're just focusing on different things, at all. Some folks see otters eating trout as a minor travesty. But considering all the tangled fishing line they had to avoid, all the powerbait and sinkers and plastic worms they had to pass...I think it's a minor miracle. Look at the bright side, that's all I'm sayin'. I mean if it's worth worrying about, let's kill every eagle, osprey and heron in the park while we're at it. fishinwrench 1

How come they get a pass? ness 1

Don't you know that if you shoot them they will just get pissed and start screwing like Minks (not a pun), and before long you'll have minks EVERYWHERE statewide. They have to be trapped by professionals and paid for within this here budget. It's the only educated way to deal with such things.
fishinwrench Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Isn't it ironic that the Missouri dept. Of Conservation only uses 0.6% of their money for Conservation ? Why are they not called the Mo.dept. of Health and Social Services ? Since that appears to be what they are best at. They spend more on trucks and fuel than they spend on natural resources and conservation combined. Or am I understanding that wrong?
SpoonDog Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 You're understanding it wrong. They're comparing MDC's slice of the pie with other state agencies- MODoT, DNR, Department of Education, Social Services, etc. Of the entire Missouri state budget, MDC is only 0.6% Oh yeah, and the minks! I 'm on the bubble about sculpins and suckers in the spring branch- I mean they eat all the bugs those pellet fed hatchery trout would eat if those pellet fed hatchery trout knew bugs were food. They should consider themselves warned.
