Usually end up just gluing one of my finger tips to my palm or pants pocket and make the cut worse when I pry myself loose from myself.

Oh, didn't know you had fished with Champ188 during one of his Super Glue fiascos.   Think he glued himself to the side of the boat once.  I'm pretty sure his thumbprint is still attached to the hull.

Really comes down to moisturizing ahead of time, and regularly, which I hate. Variety of products will do that.

Zim's Crack Cream is pretty good at preventing and treating the splits. The liquid bandage products are a much better choice than super glue in a pinch. They won't really help heal a split, but will get you functional in a safer way than glue.

I use the liquid deals, but try to get them picked/scrubbed loose, then fill the split with triple antibiotic at night, and cover like any other open cut.

I have used EVERY product known to man plus a few. I used to have splits in both hands so bad they would bleed. I used various super glues to seal up the wound (I feel as long as surgeons can use this stuff, it might be safe). I found that almost every product would give me temporary relief, the eczema would become immune to the treatment and come back with vengeance. Two years ago I stumbled across the right combo (not sure what that combo was), and my hands are totally healed. I still haven't found the exact treatment for my ankle, but it is much less of a problem than someones hands.

If he and I were ever to venture out in a boat together there should probably be some sort of parental guidance involved.  While I've never glued myself to the side of the boat I HAVE glued myself to the carpet on a number of occasions.  And getting stuck to the towel that's sole purpose is to keep the glue off of me and other unintended locations is a given just about every time.

Thumb to forefinger is another more often than not deal.

It's never ceases to amaze me all of the places that I get stuck to that I have absolutely zero recollection of even being near prior to being stuck.

Tuff to deny having touched yourself there though when you need to ask for help to pry yourself loose from you!

Thanks Sam (just what you need - another nickname).  I've been pretty close to doing it right I guess then.  I am constantly applying either Lubriderm and or O'Keeffe's Working Hands in an attempt to ward off such afflictions but it never seems to work.  Finger tips and the sides of my thumbs right at the cuticle are the killers.

They're like paper cuts that actually ache and throb but the bleeders are the worst.

I can't even imagine how much I'd whine if I had an actual "injury"!

This time of the year I'm usually walking around with bandaids and athletic tape wrapped around at least one digit.  I apply Neosporin and wrap with a band aid and then add a half wide strip of athletic tape to hold it in place.  Of course every time I wash my hands I have to start all over and repeat the process but just haven't found a better way.

I actually think that golf in cool/cold/dry weather is worse than fishing for some reason.  Yet another reason to quit that stupid game and spend my golf ball money on more Ploppers!

These are exactly the reason I went to super glue and it's been a real help with the sides of the thumbs.  So painful.  The liquid bandage does the trick, too but I had to reapply in foul weather conditions.  The glue stayed on better.  About went through a bottle of the "New Skin" during a Central Pro-Am at Beaver years ago.  This time the cut was on the ball of my thumb where I feathered line coming off the reel.  Could tell the INSTANCE the New Skin had worn off.

I have tried just about everything. All creams, lotions, etc. I have slept with cotton gloves on slathered with Aquaphor. That does work, until you stop. Like you said keeping your skin moisturized is the best way to prevent the drying out and eventual splitting. But it is kinda hard to keep up with that regimen because it is so friggin' annoying going to bed looking like a half naked mime. When a split does occur I also do the hydrogen peroxide, triple antibiotic and band aid combo until the skin heals. But I can have my skin as good as I think it is going to be....and ONE weekend of fishing, tooling around twisting screws, bolts, battery wingnuts, thumbing a wet baitcaster spool, tying knots, etc.....and I am RIGHT BACK TO SQUARE ONE with DESTROYED FINGER TIPS. I have had thoughts of just taking a lighter to my finger tips and cauterize the dang things. Also would double as removal of finger prints so when I break into Dave's bait hoard.....good luck dusting for them!

Yep. A round of golf also makes my fingertips split. I carry that liquid bandage in my bag now.

I just heard about a new product for eczema, that is due to be on the market this year. It is called dupilumab and in test cases it has totally eliminate eczema. That will be a blessing from GOD if it lives up to the expectations.

This would truly be a godsend. I've had this for about 7 years now and it's the most frustrating "ailment" I've ever had. I realize that I shouldn't be complaining as there are people suffering from just terrible and life threatening diseases but man.....dry skin and spit fingers are just the devil reincarnated.
