BassMaster#1 Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 For those of you with a jet boat who do you all use close to eureka area to sharpen your impeller? Got some rocks in the impeller while I was out last weekend? Thanks
grizwilson Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 This is my guide.... https://fishwithjd.com/2010/05/19/5-tips-to-help-improve-your-outboard-jets-performance/ you have the hard part (disassembly) done or: “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
mikeak Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I always sharpened my own untill they would'nt shim up anymore ,then I would have them rebuilt, much cheaper than a new impeller. Also, you can fix those wear rings on the sleeve your self. In the picture it looks like your impeller isn't shimmed up enough. I lived in Alaska and used to guide on some of the rivers,I've had a lot of experience sucking gravel. I used to carry 3 impellers and two sleeves plus an extra foot. If I can help you in any way just send me a private message Mike dtrs5kprs, Deadstream, grizwilson and 1 other 4
BassMaster#1 Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 What I'm confused about is what part to sharpen, the top portion or the bottom. if i have the impeller faceing the the way it goes in boat do i sharpen the top part or bottom part....thanks for the link
fishinwrench Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Here ya go.... First measure the amount of material missing from the end of a blade, and take that x3. If it adds up to more than 1 3/4" then you can go ahead and trim as shown above and continue to use it..... But it is time to buy a new one soon. grizwilson 1
BassMaster#1 Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 So according to this diagram I would sharpen the underside as if it was installed in the the motor. Just a file would do it? Thanks
fishinwrench Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Correct on the side you want to remove material from. You'll want to remove the impeller, put it in a vise and use an angle grinder. Doing it with a file would take you all week and make you hate life. grizwilson 1

True, I take mine down with a grinder then finish with file, just be careful. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
