abkeenan Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Brother decided that my 6'10" Falcon BuCoo would be better off missing the top 8" inches. They no longer make this model (nor Original BuCoo's in general) and was thinking of giving Hammer Rods a look. Have heard good things about them. I love Falcon rods but I have fishing gear ADD and like to try new stuff. SupremeJCK 1
Members BearFisher10 Posted April 5, 2017 Members Posted April 5, 2017 I've heard nothing but great reviews about Hammer Rods and the family that owns the company. I've got a few buddies down south that use them and they love them. Debated picking one up to try but I didn't have a need for one when I was checking them out. They are made in Harrison from what I've heard, but they are based out of Mississippi somewhere around Pickwick I believe. If you do buy one, I've been told to go up one power from what you normally would use. Apparently they're pretty soft. They do have a more parabolic bend to them as well. Hope that helps. Edit: I just remembered I watched a video from Buddy Gross recently, pretty sure it was on the FLW website, where he touched on them a bit as well.
fozzype Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 If you like the bucu, you will love the hammer rod. I think they are the same basic blank and rod as the bucu with upgraded eyes..they are great people at ark rods and I have always been treated well. Just get the action you like and it will fit the needs and be comparable to much more expensive rods.. B. Foz
bluebasser86 Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I have a Hammer that I use to fish bladed jigs, which is one of my favorite baits to fish. I'm in love with the rod and couldn't recommend it higher. Planning on owning more in the future no doubt.

Jigs, Big Worms, etc. Heard that they are a very versatile blank where you can throw baits 1/4oz to over 1oz with no issues. Highly considering getting one.
Champ188 Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Don't see how you're gonna properly "load" a H action rod with a 1/4-ounce bait. Just sayin. There are not a lot of circumstances on Table Rock that call for a H action rod, other than throwing the silly rig. dtrs5kprs, crazy4fishin, mixermarkb and 1 other 4

Well I have read a lot of reviews of this rod and for starters they say bump up one power from what you really want. They are overrated in terms of their power ratings. So their H is more of a MH. Also have read that the blank has a more parabolic taper where the rod will load further down the shaft. This is all that I have read online and haven't actually handled one. They are made in Harrison, Arkansas......figured an old Razorback beat writer would be all over the scoop on this rod company. Slacker. vernon 1

This is all the same that I was told and it was spot on. I'm using the 6' 9" H/F for bladed jigs and it has been the perfect rod for them. I was worried buying a rod with those specs without ever handling it, fearing I'd get a pool cue that I'd have no use for, but the guys I talked to about the rod steered me right and I'm really glad I gave it a shot.
