Dementia can be tough. Nursing someone with dementia can be a lot tougher. Dementia can create disorientation and confusion. Apart from this wandering is the most common side effects of dementia. Here are a couple of home security tips to help people with dementia ( http://protectionplus.ca/blog/home-security-to-help-people-with-dementia/ ):

1) Door Chime: Door chimes are magnetic and make a sound when the door is opened. The sound will remind them that the door is open. Some security systems would even send you a text message when the door chime goes off at certain times.

2) Nightlights: These high-tech systems will help keep wanderers safe. Putting in assistive lighting is a great way to reduce the risk of injury if they go wandering. You could also opt for motion sensitive lighting that turns on when someone enters the room.

3) Locks: Have the locks moved to a higher or lower position on the door. This will help in preventing them from wandering around at night. Before you install any new security system in the home of anyone with dementia always explain to them how it would be beneficial for them.

Ok anymore I just can't remember where I am. GPS helps in my Pickup, GPS helps me find my Pickup out hunting. Have my wife on Speed Dial if I'm shopping and forget which store I'm in or how to get there.

This is a New thing, last couple years. They told me to play Digital Games to help my mind work.

Oh I start Typing and forget what I was going to say, very aggravating.

How old are you oneshot? Good thing second wife is saying no to a boat.

Very sorry to here you are dealing with these issues, haven't noticed in any of your recent posts and sure hope you get on top of the issue. My wife had a stroke 7 years ago, only short term memory issues and we got Luminosity to help her and are pleased with the results. Take Care.   CM

Yep my mother is dealing with the same thing badly. The nut doesn't fall far from the tree so I suppose I will deal with it myself someday. Mrs. BilletHead and I had a talk about it today as a matter of a fact.

Be careful what you say, they might come take you or your BB gun away...^_^

I will make sure I get them taken away when I begin to think they are a bb gun. Had to take moms vehicle away last Summer. She keeps asking for another one. It has progressed real fast. In a five minute discussion I hear the same thing five times. We all need to prepare for things like this. Seriously be good to your children, they will be taking care of us. Glad we only have BilletHead Junior. There will be no family fights on how we end up :) . Told him i would be sure he gets all the bills involved too,

I was my Grandfathers Primary care giver for 7+years. He loved his burn barrel and the mailbox.  It was heartbreaking. I scare myself regularly with what I forget.

My great uncle was stricken with it back before it had a clinical name, they just called him "ol' crazy Walter".

He decided one day to sell his fishing boat.  For 4 months afterwards he'd wake up every morning, pour himself a cup of coffee, look out the window and  have a shitfit because "somebody stole his boat!"  If my aunt Ann didn't get to him quick enough he'd call the sheriff.   After a week of getting a phone call every morning the county dispatcher would answer "Good morning Walter, I know Hun. Don't worry we'll find it".

We thought it was funny as all get out at the time, but when I think back about it now it makes me sad.   Poor ol' dude. :(

It is sad Wrench but still we have to grin at some things that happen. it is a catch 22. Darned if you do and darned if you don't. Mom has nineteen acres. She and dad always called it a twenty. Now she is all upset. She thinks someone has stolen an acre from her. My sisters and I try to explain to her the deal. She still gets mad it has been thieved from her. We have learned to try to sway her to another subject and she begins to ask for a car. Then we work to another subject. She is still at home and will not budge to go anywhere. When I call if I get no answer or if the phone is busy I drive over. It is either she lost the phone and cannot find it or forgets to hang it up after talking. It is scary. She once raked leaves and burned them under the soffit on the back of the house (basement home). Melted the vinyl soffit. I could tell so many stories, must be patient as we will all get this way at sometime in our life. When we hear about having a second childhood it is the truth. Mom is in hers,
