If you did and the capt. allows it throw a streamer at the Mahi Mahi. When you get one up to the boat there will be followers. Did that once with some soft baits and freshwater tackle. WOW. May be some trout around as well. Good luck. No fly rod. I've never used one. Not that I won't, I just haven't taking the time to learn that yet bkbying89 1
Dan the fisherman Posted June 6, 2017 Author Posted June 6, 2017 Gave tarpon fishing a try today, only had one bite and my wife Kristy, was unable to hook it up. Still had a great time and enjoyed the weather and sun with Kristy. Unfortunately it's going to be raining the rest of the week so I won't have another chance till next week. Oh well I'll keep trying for sure as soon as the weather clears up. Here's a few pics from the day Daryk Campbell Sr, Lance34, J-Doc and 2 others 5
Gavin Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 They will bite in the rain. Suit up and toss topwater at the right tide. Bomber Badonkadonk in Mullet Color or Clown, or a swim bait. Boat should move towards the flow of the tide, cast upstream, and not necessary to hit the bank. Work your way in towards the bank or you will bust/line a lot of fish. Dan the fisherman 1
Dan the fisherman Posted June 6, 2017 Author Posted June 6, 2017 I guess there's a west wind also and the boat captain swore the westerly winds and rain, but especially the west winds would mess the bite up. But don't know n e thing about keys fishing so IDK.
J-Doc Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 At least you got to see a tarpon up close. Makes all other fish look like mutts. They are the most majestic looking fish to me. Just beautiful. Maybe one day I'll get a replica mount of my 90lb fish when I win the lottery. Dan the fisherman 1 Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. Stump bumper Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Aren't there some good spots around there for peacocks also ? I always wanted to fish those on top water, looks like a blast. See if you find this girl while you are down there, she is my favorite fish show. Dan the fisherman 1
Members TexExp Posted June 7, 2017 Members Posted June 7, 2017 And remember, you don't need a boat to catch Peacock Bass! :-) Fast forward to 3:30. trythisonemv and Dan the fisherman 2
Dan the fisherman Posted June 9, 2017 Author Posted June 9, 2017 Got these on kietechs this morning from the dock in the back. I had 2 cudas break me off. I seen some big tarpon cruising by but they didn't bite. Next time I guess. trythisonemv, Lance34, Ron Burgundy and 5 others 8
Dan the fisherman Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 Biggest cuda yet!!! I got it on a big shallow crank bait. The fish Must have been 2 feet or so. But man are they fast and fun. They jump out of the water like 3-4 feet and they run at you and away from ya. Like bullets in the water. Johnsfolly and Lance34 2
Dan the fisherman Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 Did a 12 hr sword fish trip a couple of days ago. Unfortunately We didn't hook up to n e swords. We did get plenty of Mahi though, my wife hooked up to the biggest of the day. She was a troop for sure. MOPanfisher, snagged in outlet 3, Johnsfolly and 1 other 4
