Johnsfolly Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 After threatening several times we were able to get to Vernon county MO to visit Billethead and his Mrs. Oh and Sadie as well. Pretty sure that she enjoyed the constant attention as she made the rounds from one person to another. Spent a fair amount of time taking in all that is BHV. Looked over the heavily guarded tomato plants in the garden, to the fry painting station, the various waterfowl and mammal mounts, we even caught a glimpse of the mega wok cooking station. It was like seeing every post come to life. All of that paled in comparison to meeting BH and his Mrs. What a great and genuine couple. They opened their home (yes they do live in their home) to a bunch of folks that they met on the internet. Ok they knew about me, my Betterhalf, and Livie but maybe not our oldest Jackie and our 17 yr old son Sean. They soon found out that I am not the only story teller in the family. Lots of stories were told. Also a few jabs about how some people dress while fishing or what color fishing line they use. Lots of laughs intermixed with all eyes looking outside as the variety of game animals walked by the house. Was really hard not to beg BH to bring out the .17 rifle to take a few of the young ''groceries" running around out the window. As good as the conversation was or BH showing us his selfbows, it wasnt until Sean mentioned that he was hungry that BH showed his true colors. He jumped up and headed to the kitchen to heat up some goose fajitas for my son and then Livie. Pretty soon all of us were enjoying the fajitas. Then the buffet opened up. BH got out the sichuan duck (actually goose) and turkey carnitas. It was one great bite after another. Yes Ness we even had chopped cilantro on the carnitas. Believe it not there apparently is a right way to make the carnitas ☺. I won't say (or can't say because she's my wife) who made theirs incorrectly. Then came the peach crumble made with peaches from the "peachless" tree out front. When we left with parting gifts (gooseberry jam,BBQ sauce, tbai pepper plants, and several packets of goose meat, we were full of great food and just excited about the visit. As Mrs BH said "if you leave their house hungry it's your fault". None of us left hungry. Can't wait to see when we can get back together and possibly fish. Sorry no photos. What happens in BHV stays in BHV! So maybe this never happened. Flysmallie, Quillback, snagged in outlet 3 and 6 others 9
BilletHead Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 Oh my yes it was fun! The things we learned on this visit and I am sure it was just a mere part of the Folly family. Let me see where shall I start . Right no photos were taken but there are a few things I will share. I did mention getting out the camera for one photo but it got stifled pretty quick. This was almost like a rendezvous of sorts. We ended up with trading material too. A nice bottle of wine and Folly strawberry jam. We did try to trade for Livie so we would have a young impressionable apprentice for the ways of the BilletHead's. Fly fishing out of the kayak's and fly tying, fry making etc. But there was no deal this time, maybe next visit. We are sure she could teach us about micro fishing too. There were many critter getting implements at John's disposal. He should of said something. I seen him peering out the window at the numerous squirrels. scampering around. Thought once I seen some drool out of the corner of his mouth. Did not know if that was just a Folly thing of salivating at the groceries in the grass. Know I know for sure. As for the feast! This was a win, win situation. We cook big, no need this is just what we seem to do and it is hard to break. I had orders from the Mrs. to be cleaning out the leftovers this week. Now if I had eaten all we had in there you would not be able to get me through the front door. When Sean did mention that he was going out to the Folly rig to see what he could find in the ice chest I thought it was time to make my move. Out came the feast. If planning would of been better on my part we would of cooked but this was the second best outcome immediately available. Other than the crumbly corn tortillas the buffet line went off without a hitch. We all got through without getting stabbed by a rampant fork. Yes forgot another small glitch, Had to instruct the kids how to use a thirty something year old Montgomery Wards microwave. They don't make them like they used to is a fact. I think everyone got their fill and there was just enough for Sadie dog to get a taste. I am thinking we got the best deal in the visit. There will be more to add to this later so stay tuned , BilletHead Mrs. BilletHead, Flysmallie, Daryk Campbell Sr and 3 others 6 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" BilletHead Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 A few more fun Folly facts we learned yesterday, Starting with the youngest Livie. Not only is she a good fisherman she is a crack shot. We got to hear more about her turkey this spring. She has the best bird taken by the Folly family and she does not let the rest of them forget it. Also Livie may have a future in hair styling. As we visited Livie worked on Follysbetterhalf's hair. She got what I would call what kewpie doll would wear. We had just talked about not having taken any pictures of our visit. I made the remark it would be a good time to snap one of this hair doo. Let me tell you I have seen ladies spend countless hours working on their hair but there was a record broken when the camera was mentioned. If you would of blinked you would of missed Mrs. Folly getting the Kewpie doo undone . Now to Sean. Typical teenage boy. Got to telling us about his endless appetite. I believe it as we raised one and he ate us out of house and home. Then the oldest Jackie. She got to talking about her boyfriend that is now in the service. He made and shot selfbows. This peaked my interest as it is something I hold near and dear and did for many years. I asked her if he ever went to MoJam selfbow jamboree. She replied yes. Got me to wondering as I attended for several years and thought maybe his and my path might of crossed at one time? Pretty cool to think it may have. We also learned that dinner rolls can be hurled at speeds that could take an eye out. Maybe two eyes if you were not careful ! Then there is Mrs. Folly. I had her pretty much figured out from her posts here on OAF. She is witty and I am sure can hold her own with anyone. I was on best behavior yesterday. I think I may have met my match in fun jousting . Great family and so glad the mini rendezvous happened, BilletHead's Johnsfolly, JestersHK and Daryk Campbell Sr 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Johnsfolly Posted June 3, 2017 Author Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks again BH. Lots of laughs from most here in Nixa about the dinner rolls. Pretty sure that you know who was not amused . See you have freedom to bring up those stories. I have been getting flack all day about possibly alluding to whom didn't prepare their carnita right ! So I have to live with them closely for the next couple of days and have to watch my step. I know that there are those that state that OAF is like their family. I have to disagree for a few different reasons 1) You don't get to chose your family 2) OAF is less dysfunctional than many families (barring any catch and release discussions or about whether the MDC is doing a good job, etc.) 3) The whole point of being involved in OAF is because we are all ridiculously obsessed with fishing. Most of my family don't even really fish. This really is a great place to talk to guys that have similar interests and sometimes we actually get together in real life and it is just as great then as well. Thanks to Phil! Daryk Campbell Sr Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Glad you guys got to share this with us. Good times.
