Pepe Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Does anyone use a jig like this - 1/4 oz bushy bucktail with Paca Chunk? Dhunter1 and abkeenan 2
Gavin Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Randy Breth ties similar, have not seen him post here in awhile though. If you can locate the heads, Craig Stephens at Hargrove's Fly Shop in St Louis will tie them custom for you. Great tier and friend.
abkeenan Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Man that looks killer Pepe. Bet that would be dynamite at night.
fishinwrench Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 They sure look awesome, and I have tried them a bunch, but they never produced as well, in my hands, as rubber/silicone jigs. I even played with the old Hair jig and pork eel combo. Just couldn't make it work for me. No idea why not.

I made some for guys using them to catch smallmouth up north and just wondering if these, in different colors, might work here in colder water. dtrs5kprs, Champ188, Sore Thumbs and 1 other 4

I know guys that throw small white hair jigs in the winter and do well on TR.
Gavin Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 My favorite hair jig is 1/8oz, aspirin head, in black or brown bear hair. Old school Billy Westmoreland favorite and mine. Ron Krueger does some flair hair jigs our of Deer hair not buck tail. Killer too but mostly a cold water slow fall thing. Mitch likes olive or olive & orange but artic fox or Finn raccoon. Very sparse on the hair with a small trailer. Sometimes Marabou. Was pre HD Craw/Ned though. I Stick with black, brown, olive, white, and yellow 1/8oz on Mitch heads or aspirin mostly. Some color & flash accents in the collar, or accents in the collar or tail if designed for a rabbit strip trailer with brown trout and bronzebacks in mind. Not much success with buck tail. Coyote tail gold, red, & black flash is a killer.
176champion Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 I was always a sucker for a good looking hair jig and those do look good. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
GNSfishing Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Gosh guys we were using those 25 to 30 years ago and caught tons of fish on the arkie style jig heads with uncle josh pork trailers in #11 and #1 sizes in pork frogs in several colors. Then the plastic skirts and then rubber skirts and now silicone skirts they all catch fish and will still catch fish today. magicwormman and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
