Royal Blue Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Put in at Mill Creek and were headed out just before 6:00am. Hit our first spot and found a few right away up in the brush. I was committed to trying to catch a fish on my big SPRO Rat, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The rat got absolutely crushed on my 7th or 8th cast and I boated one that went 5.3. We stayed on that bank and caught another one that was just over 4 on a chatterbait. Spent the morning bouncing from spot to spot and I had a tough time putting the rat down until it got really hot out. No other takers on it, but I'm a believer now. Every other fish that we caught was on a jig. Broke off a keeper smallie at the boat due to a bad knot, and broke off 3 jigs on hook-sets. Time for some new line on my jig rod! The key on the jib bite was to throw it up right on the bluff banks with a ledge. They would hit it right as you pulled it off of the ledge. Tried throwing a 6XD and a big worm with zero takers. It was a great day and we had a total of 17 between the two of us with 3 over 4lbs and a total of 9 keepers. Yesterday's bag would've won any derby that I've heard about on TR for the last several weeks. Too bad there weren't any random Wednesday tourneys! We had just over 17lbs. Water temp was 91 degrees when we put it on the trailer at noon, and the wake boats were insane for a Wednesday. Quillback, magicwormman, Diamond City Fisher and 5 others 8
Members jasonqrich Posted July 20, 2017 Members Posted July 20, 2017 that rat is crazy! i like the color combo. good day for sure.
m&m Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 RB, nice day for sure. Gotta love that topwater bite. Thanks for the information Mike
merc1997 Bo Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 it is crazy that this time of the year the quality bites are very shallow still, but i am seeing signs of that changing, but not too much of a depth change. those are some really nice bass. bo Royal Blue 1

I threw a blade quite a bit and had one really good bite, but had forgotten to put a trailer hook on there. I lost 3 of your jigs yesterday too. I need to stock up, but they were definitely biting them. magicwormman 1
Champ188 Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 My boat is cleaned up/reorganized and the motor needs a good run. Been 5-6 weeks since it's been in the water. Might go tomorrow (Friday). merc1997 Bo, magicwormman, big c and 2 others 5

Champ188 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Probably right, Bo. May have to drag it down a gravel road on the way to the lake. 😀 dtrs5kprs 1
