I think we would all be surprised by where things are actually filmed. Got me there. I'm too busy watching Game of Thrones now. Started it this week and I'm through season 2.
Pepe Posted July 28, 2017 Author Posted July 28, 2017 Justin Bateman is the Producer and Star of the show and the screenplay was written by a guy who worked at a LOZ resort as a teenager decades ago. The show liberally applies negative ignorant Hillbilly stereotypes to offset the "much smarter and sophisticated" big city folks. There is a funny but powerful message that these are Hillbillies NOT Rednecks. The book and movie "Winters Bone" is set much closer to TR and portrays rural poverty, family oriented organized crime & despair in a very powerful way. If you have not read the book or seen the movie, I highly recommend it. "Winters Bone" & "Ozark", give us a look at how much of the country, and the world for that matter, view us. I find it, at once, interesting and instructional - in that it illustrates how I need to be deeply suspicious of, or outright reject, the other media stereotypes we are regularly exposed to. In other words, it reinforces how full of s**t much of our media programming is. I need to turn off the idiot box and go fishing. dtrs5kprs, Champ188, Mitch f and 5 others 8
ollie Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Yes, I second that on "Winters Bone". Very true to life in the Ozarks unfortunately. grizwilson and dtrs5kprs 2 "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Old plug Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 It is true but life everywhere not just not rural people os a total mess. This nation is so fractured by so many BS attitudes formented by selfish leaders and stuff like the social media, politicians and religion I believe my grandkids will live to see the end of what we call the USA. We are having a class struggle in this country. grizwilson 1

The Costal and Nor Easter Elites, and most of Western Europe are holier than thou. They really think they are smarter and more worthy than us. It doesn't bother me too much though. I think the Europeans with their 4 day work weeks and extended "Holidays" have much worse problems than us. But as long as they feel superior, so be it. They're still ticked about our Exodus. Quillback Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Well I lived for close to 20 years outside of Seattle and worked for a company that was based in San Jose CA. I'd tell people that I was going back to Arkansas to visit my folks on vacation and it was always funny to hear their reactions. I gave up trying to tell them like it is, and would just say stuff like, "Well the still broke down and Ma and Pa need me to come back and fix it". Or, it's fall and they need help butchering the hogs. People out on the coast really do base their opinions on this part of the country based on what they see on the tube. Of course that's not true for everyone out there, but quite a few. West coast is messed up now, way too many people. It is paradise lost, if the population was 10% of what it is now it would be a great place to live for an outdoors person. Still some great outdoors opportunity to be had out there, but you have to work to get to it. And fight traffic. Mitch f and dtrs5kprs 2
m&m Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 We view people on west coast and the NYers as elites, self-centered and out of touch with the rest of the country. Maybe that is unfair also...... On second thought we pretty much have them pegged correctly!! IMHO Mike Mitch f and Quillback 2
Old plug Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 i sort of like the discription of what kind of people we are or should be in the Book of JAMES In the BIble.
