Spinning Reel

Have been burned by Shimano's plenty of times...Will never buy another. Guess there fine if you keep them dry in a rod locker and rarely use them. Toss them in  canoe and get them wet and they have the shelf life of a banana. Have had good results with Pfluegers & Abu's.

I had two Pflueger Presidents snap where the reel seat stem goes into the gear case. Replaced them under warranty with Pflueger Supremes and no troubles so far. These are 4000 size. Grew weary of line twist issues with smaller reels.

I agree there is no reason to spend over $100 on a spinning reel.  I have the Cabela's Prodigy (currently on sale for $69.99- normally $99) and I have been very very happy with it.  Very smooth and drag seems to work very well.

Lews has some decent spinning reels in the $40-$80 range.  I have a Stradic and it is very nice but won't spend the money on one again.  top_dallar said you usually are not doing much with a spinning reel.  As long as it has a good drag it work good.  I bought a couple of Lews spinning reels that seem to work well and they were a lot less money.  Lews Mach II Speed Spin $79.99 and a Lews Laser G $39.99.  I have been happy with both.  I will say that I prefer to have a big stick in my hand and not a spinning rod, but sometimes you got to do what it takes to catch them.

I have had nothing but bad luck with Lews spinning gear, even the high end ones are junk compared to some other cheaper reels mentioned.  And i personally would rather spend a little more on a nice spinning reel than a baitcaster

Ditto on the Lews, just don't hold up.....I went to the Diawa Ballistic EX2500, great drag, no maintenance

i have to agree with Top Dollar that spinning setups should be 75%rod and 25% reel. smooth drag, solid anti-reverse, and a good feel.

i used to be a shimano fan, but now i like pfluegers. i have i think 10 prez and supremes, and i love em. also had an Abu that was a good reel. 

i have a med light st croix eyecon with a 35 series pflueger prez XT that is my current favorite spinning setup.

Prodigy is a Daiwa, made for Cabela's, I believe.
