MoCarp Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Otters can clean out areas of river, fish LEAVE the areas to avoid being eaten!....so Otters that hang out in hole or two will munch on the fish they catch, the fish who are good at evading will live...if they are an issue in your area TRAP the buggers! sell the hides as a bonus..as a note nature isn't always in balance she get in balance in cruel harsh ways, sickness, and starvation..boom and bust are normal in the natural world.....its when the fishing is in its bust cycle, the otters move to greener pastures...while your fave stretch of river or creek has sucky fishing for a while.... Flysmallie Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Was at a friends house over the weekend who has small pond behind his house. Several years ago it went dry. They cleaned it out and fixed the leaks and it refilled and held water so they started stocking it. Then otters showed up. He wasn't sure what to do so he called MDC. Was told there was way too many of them, just shoot them. But he never saw them again. Last year he saw a couple but they were never around when he was armed.

fishinwrench Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 My favorite hole already has otters, but it also has beavers, so the otter population is firmly in check. Beavers won't tolerate otters in their neighborhood I don't think. Stop killing beavers and maybe the otter problem (if there truly is one) will go away.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Beavers are as scary as squirrels. mikeak 1
