No there is always some BS wanna be food item that has some mystical prep-step, aside from it being FRESH, that supposedly makes it delicious.  So if you don't like it, or refuse to eat it, then you "obviously" don't know how to cook it right.

You know the deal. It either has to be soaked in warm 7up, or par boiled, or danced around naked with one hand on your ear and the other one doing counter-clockwise circles over your head while your body spins clockwise.  And THIS turns it from cat food into a delicasy.

Some things you look at and your first impression is....I ain't eating that.   Carp, liver, gizzards, squirrel brains, and all sorts of stuff that people claim is delicious "if cooked right" will never touch my lips.

There are several thing that no matter how they are cooked, no matter who cooks them, I am not gonna eat or even think about eating them.  Some I have eaten once before others I just ain't gonna do it, and being a well fed American I don't have to.

When you go to a sketchy restaurant what's your default safe order ?

Mine: Chicken fried steak.  Nobody has yet to make CFS so nasty that I couldn't eat it. 😋

My wife used to go with a BLT until she got a purple tomato. Now she CFS's with me.

I have had buff ribs that had been smoked and I liked them. I had a bow fishing book once, wish I knew where it went anyway it had recipes in it. One was called lobster imposter. It was drum seasoned and put under a broiler to be cooked. Drizzled of dipped in butter and eaten hot. Very, very good. Sure wish I knew where the ingredients part was. Would be eating them again. That would be the drums punishment for you thinking you had a big walleye from the depths only to see it is a drum. A big one fights good and they will flat slam a SR5 and a SR7 sized shad rap :) ,

           Nice Griz,

I have sort of done that with bluegill. I think I would draw the line at the  food coloring though.  Another tasty fish some are afraid to try is gar. You can do it the same way. I like it. Just eat it hot dip it in butter! Labor intensive cleaning them though. Don't eat the eggs as they are poisonous or toxic .

Why Drum ?

And why "poor man"?

Shrimp isn't expensive.

Shrimp is not expensive if it is raised in Asia or Mexico. If you eat that crap raised in sewer lagoons you would eat Wrenches wading shoes and probably not tell the difference. :) .  Wild caught big nice shrimp are good.

Since you Wrench are afraid of foods not cooked right I was thinking of flying fajitas at the festival but because you have special qualified campfire chefs I understand.

I have been know to be a lover of the pea either raw right out of the garden or the pea in a pea form cooked "correctly" and not that baby crap creamed stuff Ness loves so well :) ,
