fishinwrench Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 I headed out to check on the Whites and Stripers this evening. Got out early and sat anchored on the flat waiting for something to happen. Something never did. I fanned the sweet spots with a Crease fly and a Clouser to make sure they weren't just playing quietly tonite, but it was obvious that nobody was home. It would have sucked if I had driven an hour+ to do that. Luckily I get a good break on the paying of dues here. 😊 BilletHead and snagged in outlet 3 2
Old plug Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 That happens down her to wrench. That is why I chase after them on the on the contour drop offs. The evening my neighbor caught the 7lb Hybrid people were trolling and casting up on the Flats. His fish and the other 15 we caught were 25 to 28 ft deep. There were schools of shad down there just above them. I think they got all they wanted without coming up. Then a couple day after that there were a lot of riser way out. The next evning the fisherman were sitting out there in the lake in 65-70 ft of water casting and trolling. We stayed on the contour where we were not far either way for action. That evening we got the bulk of the fish action was up on the flat in 15 ft of water on the surface. Like everyone else I call it wrong as well. But I keep my eyes on that fish locator and will not stay in a place that does not look promising.. I run the troller almost constantly.

RSBreth Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 Thursday I walked out of my office and went to the car, got the flyrod and walked down to the Finley and caught two Smallies and one green fish on one of my poppers. If you like Smallmouths you owe it to yourself to learn to cast a fly rod. Flysmallie and fishinwrench 2

You don't understand Mitch. Where I live is farm country, flat and dirt and bottom ground. My closet gravel is above Stockton and some below. Feeder creeks that flow below again out of farm country. My area is not condusive to the brown bass. I was tempted to drive 2 hours to a nice bass lake but stayed cloes to home.
