Of course. But the piston chamber just kept pushing more grease out, and even though it was shooting great I was having to clean the barrel every 100 or so shots or else accuracy would start to fall off. I thought I had gotten it all blown out, but then during a long period of trajectory plotting it went off like a black powder cannon, and after that the accuracy went completely stupid. I swapped scopes to make sure the hard blast didn't just trash the scope, but nope it was the gun. The piston seal has a 1/8" wide flat melted spot. One of the guys on the AGN board told me that I might have caused it by storing the gun standing up.....which is a possibility I guess. But IMO if it hadn't been too heavily lubed then storing it standing up wouldn't have hurt anything.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Two things I thought I would never hear on a fishing forum. "Blew a seal" and "too heavily lubed" Boys and their toys..

Apparently it can cause any excess lube to puddle up on the face of the piston seal. The factory had lube stuffed in there like they were packing wheel bearings I'm using this stuff (SPARINGLY) when it goes back together..... MOLY EP LITHIUM GREASE is a smooth textured high melting point, water resistant lithium base grease fortified with molybdenum disulfide (moly) to reduce wear by maintaining lubrication under conditions of high friction and shock loads.
jdmidwest Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Dieseling can be caused by normal "petroleum base lube", depending on the heat buildup and combustible material. Silicone based lubes do not have the ignition problems. The more you shoot in a session, the more heat builds up, melts lube, then ignites. I'm blown away that a manufacturer that has been building airguns for YEARS like Crosman/Benjamin have, are, I assume, using the wrong type of lube.
jdmidwest Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Does silicone ignite "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
