Trout Addict Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Think I need some of what u smoking. Things are better! Enrollment continues to decline, safe spaces, people in charge are doubling down and if you want freedom of speech well there is a small area off the beaten path for that. Sorry I'm a Mizzou Grad and my child a Mizzou Grad, but they screwed up and they're doubling down on stupidity. It's going to take along time before it gets better, imo. Mitch f 1

It was a bunch of college kids and a FEW teachers protesting something that was a bit overblown, but probably had some validity to black students at the university, and it probably wasn't handled well by the people in charge. But those people aren't in charge anymore, including Pinkel. To still be down on the university and the teams which have a lot of kids playing that weren't even there during the protest is letting your own biases color your perceptions, in my opinion. It's long over and done with, things are better, and it's way past time to get back to supporting the teams for what they are, not some political BS in the past. Porter Jr.'s deal is a real bummer. Reminds me, as a long time fan, of Tony Van Zant, another number one over-all recruit who was injured before his first season and never saw the field. Without him, the team is going to really struggle early, but I expect them to get a lot better as the season goes along. Right now they are in a horrible collective shooting slump and the young guys don't know how to play defense yet, but I think Cuonzo will get them playing better defense, and those guys CAN shoot. Maybe Porter definitely not being a part of the team this year will actually work out. Now that the coach and players KNOW he won't play, they can all figure out their roles a lot better. For instance, now Barnett and Puryear know they are going to have to do some scoring and rebounding because they are going to be on the floor a lot of minutes. Last night was painful, but hopefully some good will come of it, too. What I see is that the Robertson as point guard experiment ain't gonna work. I think they need to just play Harris at the point and live with his freshman mistakes, with Phillips as his backup. Phillips can also go to shooting guard to spell Robertson. VanLeer and Geist still figure into the mix depending upon what kind of offense they want to play. They need to impress upon Jontay that he's a big man and needs to stop roaming the perimeter and shooting threes for this year, and as the announcers last night said, slow down and concentrate on just going up strong and finishing around the rim. They need to really work with Tilmon on defense so that he doesn't commit silly fouls all the time. And Nikko needs to keep getting minutes, because he's been their most consistent big man. Puryear and Barnett need to start acting like upperclassmen with experience. Barnett is either hot or cold from the three point line...if he isn't hitting, stop shooting and play defense. Mainly, though, I think Cuonzo is going to have to live with mistakes and let these guys play. The plodding, slow paced offense isn't working, turn them loose to run. Push it up the court full speed even after made baskets. They can all run the floor and he has plenty of substitutes, so PLAY FAST. But, I am just not Blues fan until April, and then they lose in the first or second round of the playoffs. I'm excited for this team. The Oilers have some issues but they've completely dominated the past few games when they put the hard work in. Think of what they could have been with Fabbri in the line up this year. It's sad to say that kid will probably never play hockey again, or at least probably shouldn't. When they get Berglund back and if he can have a decent year like he did last year that could add even more punch by adding some scoring to a pretty mediocre 3rd line. Enrollment was declining before all that took place...and you can probably thank the state legislature for that at least in part, since they keep cutting funding to the university, forcing them to keep raising tuition. As for safe spaces, so what? It doesn't affect either the quality of education or the athletics. I'll admit I don't keep up with what's happening on campus. But the furor over the protests has long since died down except for those who want to keep complaining about it. Personally, I wish all the idiots would just do their thing and everybody else ignore them. joeD 1

I respectfully disagree, since blm's protest, the enrollment of freshman has declined 35%, 400 jobs lost and seven dorms closed. I can only imagine how much alumni donations have declined. And anytime college student or anyone can't speak freely, well the institution suffers and it's a violation of the 1st amendment. So I for one supports the legislature's cuts and obviously the tax payers of Missouri must also. Once Mizzou Administration allows Free speech campus wide, I will be one of their biggest supporters. Fact is right now if I had a child, looking for higher education I would be trying to get them to look at another University that does.
