I used to just keep the fly rod in the water up past the guides or periodically give it a wash in the river, these days I keep it at home on those kind of days. Water is always above freezing and ice turns back to water. Don't recall ice on the line ever being a problem.

Ice is my cut off point, maybe a couple hours early but I need temps above freezing.

Blakemore spray, fluoro line, extra matching combo. Dip in lake spray often and only go if above freezing is predicted

More importantly, rag wool gloves or actually water proof gloves and more than 1 pair along with an auto inflatable pfd.

Coat your rod guides and reel level wind guide with vaseline. Just don’t glob it on there.

Staying home doesn’t work for all of us and Alex is a crank bait machine.

I was wondering about spraying something like Pam on the rod..

I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything!

Seems like I read something like that recently. I haven't tried it though.
