BTW, they are building one of those 3 story golf driving ranges in Chesterfield valley. No telling how much they are spending on it. But we needed a driving range close and will finally have one.

I've been to the one in Kansas City four or five times and, to me, the best part is the food.  They've got a shockingly eclectic menu and everything that I've had has been really good.  Of course what I think of as good food would probably gag most normal people so there's that.

We've gone in the evening with the wives a couple of times and have always had a good time and we've gone a time or two on a weekday afternoon in the winter to "practice" but it's golf "light" at best.  In fact, the "practice" visits were more a matter of getting in a few swings before our trip to Palm Springs and not really all that beneficial from a golf perspective but, heck, it's cold outside, the bays are heated and there's nothing else to do so why not?

I've taken my own stuff whenever I've gone cause the clubs that they have on hand deserve to be launched off of the upper deck but the average customer could probably not care less.  Not a lot of future Tour players that frequent the joint although George Brett, Jan Stenerud, Freddie Patek and an assortment of other past and present Royals and Chiefs players always seem to be there hitting balls and acting important.

It's entertaining I guess but the prices are a little ridiculous considering the quality of the golf experience.  With food and a couple of beers the price for a couple can approach a hundred bucks for anything over an hour pretty quick and an hour goes by really fast.

Danged place is always packed though and a one to two hour wait on weekends is pretty normal so they're doing something right I guess.

Heck, they even have golf LEAGUES throughout the year so in that regard it's kind of like bowling outdoors with better food that's a lot more expensive but without the cool silk shirts.

And as Champ will tell you, anything that you do without a jersey ain't really worth doing in the first place!

I'm sure all the Chesterfielder's will love it!

I hear the same thing all the time.  Food is good.  Their business model really works. People complain about how long a round of golf is and here you can stop in for a couple hours and get your fix.

Well, it ain't an industry that's got me on pins and needles waiting for the next big thing but competition is always good and a better deal for the consumer is as well so that's good news from that perspective.

If I wasn't such an old school, fuddy-duddy golf snob I'd probably enjoy it a lot more but I is what I is I guess.

I've never cared for what I always referred to as "goofy golf" and Top Golf is kind of the modern-day high tech version of just that.

Whenever somebody has invited me to play in charity scramble type event I always ask if we're gonna actually hit "real" golf shots or if I'm gonna have to play a hole left-handed or tee off standing in an inner tube or hit a shot with a baseball bat cause, if so, no thanks.

And I'm the guy that just called Mitchf an "elitist"?

I was a range rat for years solely to improve my game so I'm with you there.  I've lost interest in the game and only played twice in 2 years and that was for work or I wouldn't have played those.  5 years ago I would card 120 rounds per year.  Slow play slowly wore me down.  Really the last straw was boom boxes on golf carts.  I played a work deal and the customer's girl friend blasted auto tune music the whole time.  I could have beat that radio to death with a 9 iron by the end of the day.  

So I took my ball home and quit.

Sorry to see you leave the game but good for you for sticking up for you principles.

As Clint so eloquently stated, "A man has to know his limitations."

I'd love to see you come back but if those are the things that drove you away in the first place, forget it.  It gets worse and worse every year.

It's more like going to the carnival these days than going to the golf course.

"Growing the game" and all that sorta crap.

The problem is, most of the "new" players that they're trying to attract bring about as much to the game of golf that illegal immigration brings to the economy.
