Route 66 State Park (Former town of Times Beach, Federal EPA Superfund Site) is on the North side of I-44, this parcel of land is directly across the highway on the south side. Winter Bros has done some real wonders on the lower Meramec.

He was in St Louis a few weeks ago.  He played at the "Peabody Opera House" and this was his closing song.  I didn't make the concert, but heard this on the radio.   There was no commentary per the radio DJ.  I can't read the words without singing them.  I would hate for someting like that (original post)  to create a song abut this area.

This got me thinking about John Prine and others that were noteable in the Blue Grass/ folk style that I love.

What about St.Louis’s own John Hartford, who wrote what I consider one of the greatest songs of all time...Gentle on my mind.

He was a graduate of one of the most prestigious private high schools in St. Louis, John Burrows school. His music and style seemed to be a huge contrast from that.

Another favorite song of mine is City of New Orleans, which describes the slow death of railroads.  Written by Steve Goodman, who died of cancer at a young age.

Woody Guthrie was the best of the folk genre in my opinion.

My my list of favorite song writers across the board...not necessarily in order or greatness, although Hank IS my number 1.

1. Hank Williams

2. Bob Dylan

3. Woodie Guthrie

4. Carol King

5. Paul Simon

6. Willie Nelson

who are your favorites?

James Taylor, on top of those mentioned.

I’ve got to look up John Hartford. We had a visiting bluegrass duo at church Christmas Eve and I think I saw they were performing with John Hartford. Their name escapes me, but it was a girl in fiddle and guy in banjo

OK -- finally found the duo: Betse & Clarke. Went to their website and it said 'if you like us, then try John Hartford'. So, I got the name right, but the connection was wrong. I'm not familiar with Hartford.
