Robert Duffy. Known by many as only "Duffy", passed away on the morning of January 10 at his home in Branson. Myself and several of his friends were on the creek when we got the sad news. He leaves behind a legacy that will far out live all of us. An ambassador to Lake Taneycomo. Many a young angler have received expert tutoring from this special man. Rest in peace my good friend, and rest assured that you will not be forgotten.

Duffy was a kind, giving man who loved fly fishing with tiny flies.  I think he bought us out of #30's.

He will be missed!

He referred to those tiny flies as "fleas". He actually caught some pretty big fish on those tiny fleas.

Do you know of any specific patterns that can be considered part of his legacy ?

I didn't know him but I have certainly heard of him.

I do not but I will check with some of the locals.

I never met the man, but I remember my buddy talking about Duffy back in the mid to late 2000’s when he was going to college in Springfield. Duffy gave him some pointers and helped hiM with his fly fishing several times back then.

Was this the older guy who would wet wade all the time?  If so that's really sad and he was a heck of a guy...

Thanks for the confirmation Laker... I just saw him last time I was down there... sad indeed.  Def a tough old bird wet wading like that.

I started flyfishing Taneycomo around 2005.  We would usually make a spring and a fall trip, and it seems like every time I was there I ran into Duffy in the parking lot.  He was always a great source of info for a beginner like me, as well as just a nice guy to talk with.

It's funny, but the other day I was thinking about him and a few other folks I used to run into at Taney.  Seems like every time during the last 5 years or so that I've been in the Branson area the water was too high to wade.  I miss fishing there and I will definitely miss seeing Duffy.
