Terrierman Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 It's Riveryard here right now. We are welll up on a hillside with a place in the lower yard that drains a pasture above me. It's running about six inches deep.
BilletHead Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Out before the sun rose this morning to water and preen the garden. Jealous of you all that have been getting good rains. We have been missing the good ones. Had to literally crawl between tubs and sit on my rear to trim lower leaves that are getting that dreaded yellow and brown wilt. Keeping them trimmed off helps it from spreading some. A sharp knife slices them right off. From above I cant reach them or see what is going on in the plants. Well this is what I seen on a couple. On one plant I decided to count just what I could see from the bottom, Not a very good photo but I counted 48. This is crazy stupid. Never have we had such a crop. I really think the self watering tubs are the reason. The raised long bed is doing alright but nothing like this. Our cukes are really filling the leaning cattle panel trellis. I sit on the side daily and train vines in and out trying to keep tidy. I know soon that will be hard to keep up with. The variety we planted are burpless and pick four to five inches long. I snack right there on the rail in the shade and the few we are getting never make it to the house. Soon that will change and everyone in the neighborhood plus where the Mrs. works will be eating them, BilletHead Johnsfolly, ness and tho1mas 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" jdmidwest Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 High winds toppled my tomato vines Thurs nite, had to re anchor all of them. Picking a few sunsugar and grape tomatoes. Big tomato's are stunted and not growing along with everything else. Heat and dry month ruined most. Wind flattened corn and okra along with all the beans. Cucs starting to produce. Late plant of sugar peas and cucs just coming up, rain helped with them. We had about 4 inches last week. I like this post Tho1mas buddy, good one! Mrs. BilletHead was crawling around under the tomato plant jungle canopy a few minutes ago. Says first thing in the Am she is going to pick our first tomato, the one I posted in our last instalment on here. Should of planted a couple little piggys in the bed too. The bacon would be ready to harvest , BilletHead tho1mas 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" ness Posted July 1, 2018 Author Posted July 1, 2018 Out of town but left behind a pool-ball-sized one that was pretty close. Saw some great looking ‘Amish-grown’ maters up here in IA. Tempting but I couldn’t carry them for another two days. Looking forward to some home grown soon!! BilletHead 1 John
MOPanfisher Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 The tomatoes in my garden are not growing well. The squash, cukes and canteloupes are going great guns. Not sure if some this mis sing in the soul or I just didn't get them fertilized well enough. Maters in old flower bed and old frame are big, tall and lush. The ones in the cold frame, which is up against the d chicken house have a new development, my wife stepped into it to pull out some morning glories and fell into a hole. Apparently a groundhog has taken up residence inside the d chicken house and made an escape tunnel right between my mater plants. That is the 3rd one I know of, so now it's ON. am on grandpa duty in springdield so one of our main jobs today is to find a large live trap, target seems to have a decent choice so we will check them.in addition to Bass Pro. Then the trapping season begins. Maybe I will be able to post a "smoked groundhog" recipie soon. tho1mas 1

Can loan them out, BilletHead tho1mas and MOPanfisher 1 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Johnsfolly Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 The Follies have been getting a few cucumbers. As mentioned prwviously not many more tomatoes. The raspberry canes that aren't over run with milkweed have been giving up a few berries. Move like a novelty bite than a harvest. MOPanfisher and BilletHead 2
