The theory is, heated compost is supposed to kill it's disease.  Many other ways to transfer the fungus and virus anyway, they will find a way to the  plants.

I did toss dead tomatoes in burn barrel yesterday while cleaning up a bed.

I always heard don’t put that type of stuff in the compost, but wouldn’t worry too much. Does it get pretty hot in there?

Mine are just two wire bins that get grass clippings and chopped leaves. Don’t bother with the kitchen scraps. Takes a couple years and I alternate. Not much went in this year so far.

It is black, in the sun most of the day and gets very, very hot.

We tossed just a few tomato related items into the compost until I questioned it. The rest and clean up went into a brush pile for burning.

            Rolling in the greens,

After a lousy start the Fall greens produce. One bed an army of army worms marched through all but destroyed it. The other bed and wicking tubs did well. I am so glad Lettice is cold tolerant as two frosts have hit no problem,

My compost get everything but fish remains and meat scraps.  Used to load it up with grass clippings but it all "melts" down quickly.  Been using the same wire cage bin for years.
