liphunter Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Hello everyone. I could use a little help with a problem I am having, and I am at wits end. So if that one person out there that knows, would reply. I will appreciate you for life. Of course at my age, it probably won't be that long. I have 2012 Tracker Pro Team 190 with a two stroke Optimax motor. Here is my current issue. I want to install a trim gauge. It already has the sender and is ready to go. Now everything says look for a brown and white wire. And that is correct from the sender. and it goes all through the wiring harness as a brown and white wire. But when it reaches the transition connector that leaves the motor and goes to the console. That is where it either changes to a different color or stops all together. The wire I thought it changed to, is a brown wire. But it goes to the ignition alarm under the console. So any input would be helpful. I have been researching for a while now and have come up blank. Of course for BP would be happy to help for the right price. God forbid they would help for the sake of helping. If you have to have it done you might call Bill Cooper at Son Sac Marine north of Greenfield. He has done work for me on different occasions. jdmidwest Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Good luck with that. I asked Bass Pro for a wiring diagram on my 08 Crappie Pro. The technician said it sure would be nice to have if one existed. Documentation on Tracker boats need to improve. I would really like to see what is under the deck before I run a self tapper for something. The factory transducer even had a screw thru the wire. The installers dont have a clue where wires run. 176champion Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 The trim indicator wiring is part of the Mercury wiring harness, you would need the wiring diagram for that year Mercury...my old mercury manual for my 1995 merc shows to be a brown white strped wire and a purple wire and a black wire which would be ground....Wrench should be able to help you. fishinwrench Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Do you have a control box ignition switch, or is the ignition switch mounted on the console ? If it's a control box then there is a plug (amphenol connector) that requires a harness for tach/trim/voltmeter. If it is a flush mount control with keyswitch mounted on the console then follow the ignition switch wires down to the engine harness and you should find the brown/wht. wire. If not then split the harness open..... it's in there. The wire(s) to the alarm should be purple (not brown), but they sometimes look brown when your under the console without a flashlight.

I just have a flush console ignition switch. But I will use your advice. One wire on the alarm is purple. The other is brown. It seemed to line up with the brown and white at the connector. Which made me think that was it. But none the less I will keep pushing forward. I really appreciate the replies. Thanks again... Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... David Unnerstall Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Most digital meters have a continuity setting that buzzes. I also use a tone/amp for identifying wires. You put the tone on one end and find it on the other with the amp.
