Are you tying it with braid or Nanofil? If it's Nanofil, I have never used the stufff so I don't know what to tell you there. I've used it with 15# Power Pro and 8-10# fluorocarbon as well as with 100# Power Pro and 80# dacron on my snagging rods.

This is how much fun I had learning to tie it. My fiance took pleasure in my displeasure when I first started learning how to tie the FG. I guess the choice words that I was muttering gave it away.

I guess I'm just hard headed, but I use that Palomar now for just about everything except line to line.  I've got to where I can mod it for droppers, use it on all my salt water terminal tackle too.

A 3 turn Surgeons works for me. It breaks at the knot, but I want it to do that when I snag up. A ten second tie in the dark. Never break off the leader on a fish, just rocks &. Trees.

I can tie the Alberto pretty quick.

I tried the FG knot last knot, apparently it requires at least 3 hands.  I think I will stick with what I can actually do.

There are plenty of YouTube videos that simplify it.

The trick for me with the FG knot was to not pull on the main line too hard when wrapping the leader material. This allowed the wraps to "stack" if that makes sense.
