Falcons are the only rods in that list that I have.  I like my Falcons as well as my Gloomis rods.  I throw an A rig quite a bit in the late winter and early spring.  I have tried it on several different rods and don't like any of the MH that I have tried.  All that I have found is 7' H and I have a Falcon and a B and R Outlaw that I use for A rigs with 50# braid.

I thought we were discussing $99-$129 rods. He isn't going to buy a Falcon or GLoomis for that money. I also own several Falcon Cara's but we aren't answering the guy's question by turning the topic to top-shelf rods.

Has anyone n here got the Lews crush combo? I go one and it cast amazing and i love the big knobs on the reel but it immediately started just shredding my line, I took it back and they gave me another one and it started doing the same thing. Im on my third one now and it is just as bad you can hear and feel the mono coming through the guides like it is scrapping on somthing.  Not sure what to do now, getting tired of wasting line.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if im just that unucky

Stick with the ugly stick from 97. Two peice can't beat it! But for real, I would buy the falcon buccu. I think lews rods are about as sensitive as a baseball bat!

Of the rods listed I'd go Falcon all the way.  The Dobyns Fury line is also in that price range and worth of consideration...

Sorry to hear about that Arch. If I were you I'd take a Q-Tip and run it through all the line guides on the rod to see if it snags anything. If so you know there is a burr or something there that is shredding your line. Then I would do that same on the line guide on reel to see if maybe that isn't the culprit. Would seem odd that all 3 rods are doing it unless it's an entire production batch of bad rods.

I'll chime in as I am a $100-150 rod guy myself. I own 3 of the mentioned brands in Duckett, Lew's and Falcon. As was mentioned previously it's going to be really hard to have a spinnerbait rod that also acts as an A-Rig rod. I have a BuCoo SR "Super Duty" model which is a 7'5" XH that is great for A-Rigs, Ploppers and anything else in the 1-3oz range. You COULD get away with throwing a spinnerbait on it but it would be pretty stiff for that application. Do-able but not ideal.  Keep in mind Falcons rating are always a bit light compared to other brands. Their XH is more of a H, MH more of a M, etc.

Wow. That's a bum deal. Sounds like a real issue that Lew's needs to address with their guide vendor. I'd go back up there again and possibly see if I couldn't return that 3rd one and maybe pay up the difference to a better model of theirs.

It was already a $200 combo, and now 3 spools of line too.

See if they'll swap the rod out for a TP-1.  You'll be glad you did.
