I'm racking my brain trying to think of anything remotely edible that wouldn't taste better after that, no luck so far

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I don't get the appeal of spoonbill snagging. If everybody's so eager to go kill and eat some obscure ugly fish, plenty of asian carp in the waterways to focus efforts on. At least they're a nuisance.

That's a good point about the cooking. It's kind of like rolling something in Andy's and deep frying it. You could do that with a dog turd and it would probably taste pretty good. :D

I think the biggest appeal to snagging is that paddlefish grow so big. It's your best chance at catching a fish that could possibly weigh over the century mark. Putting others on paddlefish and seeing them get a kick out of catching their biggest fish is more exciting to me than actually catching them myself. I'd rather go trout or crappie fishing this time of year, which is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

I'll have to take your for that.

I switched to Louisiana Breading last year after a buddy brought some on a trip.  Andy's gawn!!

I will use Andy's for stronger tasting fish like spoonbill, but I am pretty partial to Zatarains Crispy Southern for just about everything else these days.

Y'all did good!

A buddy that lives up that way told me the banks are littered with dead short ones.  No surprise, it's that way every year about this time.  Releasing snagged fish just seems so stupid to me.  Why won't they just let folks keep them?

Have had spoonbill. Ok but not great. Bleading them out might help, get rid of any fat, skin, or red meat. Doubt if you would get 25% edible meat out of one fish. Would be pretty cool to have a cleaned & bleached spoonbill head though.

Nice, I'm gonna give that Crispy Southern a try. Been looking for something less overpowering than Andy's, but with more flavor than Shore Lunch.

Sweet vid! Nice rude B)

I don't get it either. Either allow catch and release OR make people keep all of them. Those smaller fish are more at risk of being mortally wounded than those big ones, but you are not allowed to release a legal sized paddlefish and forced to put back anything less than 34".
