saw this today and its the 1st I have heard, last time I knew most guys would be giddy if the women in there lives fished:wacko: as a person in the advertising world it looks like they are targeting a very specific group....thoughts?

My oldest daughter has a genuine love of it, but she has yet to ever go by herself, or find a friend that she can go with.  She reads, watches videos, and seeks out fishing information on her own.  But so far she has only gone fishing when she goes with me.

Her and a couple of friends went to Colorado last Fall and she took a little 4wt. with her to play with some brookies....but her friends had no interest so she never did break it out, or even stop and buy a license.   I'm anxiously waiting for that day when she will just GO (either by herself or with a friend).....and then call and tell me about it.   That's when I'll know that I actually did a good thing by getting her into it.

In the bass fishing relm all I see are gals that like to accessorize (play dress up).

Like: "how cute can I look doing this" "Instagram me!"

I'll believe a female is truly into fishing when she places a BPS order, on her own, for some lizards, a handful of crankbaits/Spinnerbaits, and some line......instead of a cute pink hoodie.

Same liberal bs as everywhere else. But I disagree with the guys saying he's not going to buy his favorite brand because they are expanding their reach . Women are awesome and i welcome them to the sport . Just apprehensive about the alienation of men that has been steadily increasing across our soceity. From decreasing recess time causing little boys to get in trouble more.  To me too and the like. It's a fine line people are walking ...

ok, that is posted by Orvis? They appear to say a guy called them and left that message? so what? From the 50/50 home page

From women-specific gear development, to education & adventure experiences, to nonprofit partnerships and women-centric storytelling, 50/50 On the Water is here to inspire and celebrate women in the sport we all love.

What gear could be even considered gender specific? Clothing? Probably Orvis' biggest profit maker. Is clothing considered gear?

I see this, as you say, targeting a specific group of conspicuous consumers, likely to buy entire line of goods for a photo op. Unlikely to ever cast a line. Very nice marketing scheme. The schism already exists, so use it.

Isn't that whole movement just nature's way of limiting the extreme over population of the earth? Shouldn't a conservationist encourage it as such?

I'd take casting lessons from Joan Wulff, she has certainly been a part of fly fishing for a long time and there have been some other lady fishers of note. Emily Whitlock  could probably teach me something . Women are awesome,  as trythisonemv said, and women that fish more so. I really don't think either of these categories of people as the targets of that ad.

Marketing ploy Probably. Keeping with the push of equality likely also. I would back more women getting into the sport, children too start them young. Teach everyone and anyone you can. Watching the ladies I have had the pleasure of helping and seeing them light up. Some will never pick up a fly rod again and some I have helped still fly fish. Heck hate to tell you all but I fish with my buddies only because my favorite fishing female is working or cannot go for some reason.  Sorry guys she smells better, she can cook and keeps me warm during the Winter. Only down side is it costs me double. Has her own gear and it is hers. I have to tie stuff to order in colors she likes, that and she raids my boxes. It is all worth it and she can hold her own with the long rod.  She can back the trailer to launch me and the boat and repeat the process when we get done. Women should be given the opportunity to try and if it sticks so much more the better. When I croak I hope she keeps her love of fly fishing strong,

I couldn't imagine being a woman and having to take my waders darn near all the way off just to take a piss.

Women can hold their pee up to 8 times longer than a guy can.

We'll be on a drive and my wife will casually mention that she has to pee.  My immediate thought is that I should pull into the first place I come to.   But NO!   She doesn't wanna pee THERE!   She doesn't wanna pee RIGHT NOW!

Why did she even say anything about it?  I think she just says that so I won't say anything funny, or throw her down and start tickling her.   I've noticed that everytime I crack these girls up around the house, at least one of them will blast off for the bathroom.

Silly chicks! B)

We need to get her and Amber fishing together.  So when we both check out they'll still fish !
