Then the Berkley Power worm and it is without a doubt one of the best trout catchers I have used in my career. I can tell you that those stockers down by Cooper Creek didn't care whether it was a pink power worm or a trout magnet this past weekend as long as it was pink. There were so many fish in one small area that I think they were competing for anything you threw at them though. Definitely not one of the harder days of fish catching that I've experienced. Gavin Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Great read! Think the collar is polyolefin heat shrink with a heat activated adhesive. Used to use something similar when I worked on aircraft wiring in the service. tjm and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Bill Babler Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Someone back at the start of the thread said it looks simple and should be easy to duplicate... Yep. Jump right on that. Gavin, duckydoty, Daryk Campbell Sr and 2 others 3 2 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
tjm Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I'm sure some one can copy it successfully, I'm not sure it'd be worth it and I'm not looking for that kind of work. I hate to paint and I hate doing eyes. (I'm thinking $12-$29/per copy to even git interested) Gavin is probably on the right track with the collar. Thing is that almost every thing in fly tying has to be invented and manufactured for some other purpose (with a bigger market) and adapted to the hook by some tyer experimenting.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 5, 2018 Root Admin Posted June 5, 2018 Just weighed a micro (1/256th oz). It's .0092 ounces. Someone do the math. MoCarp 1
Gavin Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Yeah, I was wrong. looks like a ton of work to replicate. His jig molds, & remaining inventories might be available if you could locate & purchase. Would tell you allot if that's all he tied.
Gavin Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Thinking the tubing goes over the hook eye after the fuzz is wrapped and secured a wrap of wire, wire removed at some point.
Gavin Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Superglue might work better than wire, glue, wrap fuzz, clip stems, collar, shrink it.
tjm Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Gavin, start the tube over the feather, then over the hook, pull the feather until the stem is under or through the tubing and the fibers are distributed evenly, shrink the tube trim stem and base of feather off & clear coat. bingobango.
