Had this same thing this morning. I seem to do it monthly. While hooking up my trailer plug to the truck , it connects to the wrong terminal as i cant see due to darkness, and blows a fuse under the hood of my Superduty every time. Like you, everything works normal but the running lights. Replaced fuse and good til the next time i do it. Took a lot of trouble shooting the first time to figure it out.

What fuse was it? What I should ask is what fuse  on the fuse chart?

The problem is fixed! It was the plug on the truck! But not the wire side, it was on the outer half of the truck plug. Well it took 4 hours in 93 degree heat and alot of trouble shooting! But life is good again! And thank all of you for your input!

Oh, by the way I went to O’Reillys to get the part and it was $14 bucks and I had to do some fancy fitting to make it work! But the Local Chevy dealer had the exact factory plug that I needed for $63 bucks. Wow talk about mark up! I made it work!

Glad you found the issue. In my case it fuse #42 under the hood.
