Gumboot Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I've had a preference for Stradics over last 20 years or so, and have not had some of the problems that I read about on the net, but wanted to try something different, and more economical, so I bought a Pflueger Supreme size 30 day before yesterday, paired it with a med lite 6' 6" fast taper rod and went to the Elk. 2 hours into float I feel a wobble during retrieve, look down, the bail arm had broken where it attaches to rotor, opposite side of line take up. Have no idea how it happened, didn't drop it, didn't bang it against yak. Can't think of what caused it. I used it for a while longer by carefully opening bail and repositioning broken arm before casting. It reeled very smoothly...until it got wet, then it was rough as a cob. Luckily I had a standby. Actually I have several stand by's, just can't stand the sight of a rod without a reel. How bout Daiwa???
Ham Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I’ve been fishing a couple of Supremes for a couple of years without any issues. Contact Customer Service and I am pretty sure they will make that right. Maybe you just got a Lemon. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I’ll give them a pass on the bail, you had any binding issues when wet? This afternoon, other than wobble, because ot was broke, it was smooth.
Ham Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I have not had any binding up. Last Shimano I owed did that. That’s why I won’t ever buy Shimano spinning again Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Seth Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I'd also give the reel another shot. I've always had good luck with Pfluegers in the Trion and President line. Another reel to check out would be the Daiwa RG-AB. It's in the same price range as the President $60. I've not tried it yet, but a buddy has and he said he likes it better than the Plueger President.

First throw that reel in the trash as the 3 I bought all had the same issues you speak of hahahaha... I guess it’s relative to each individual but, I wouldn’t give you a penny for that reel

Quillback Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I've got a couple of Supremes, fish them all the time as my "Ned" reels. Never had a binding issue, or bail issue. The one issue I have had is that inside the spool is a little metal flange that is part of the drag, it is part of the drag system that makes the zzzzzzz noise when drag is pulled. It will wear down over time and the drag becomes silent. I like the zzzzzz noise so the only fix is to buy a new spool (Ebay). The drag still works, but no zzzzzz when the piece wears out. If I was going to buy another Pflueger tomorrow, I'd just get the President XT which looks to weigh about the same as the Supreme. I haven't fished the new model President XT, but made a few casts on one that my buddy owns, and I was impressed by the smoothness of that reel considering the price point. The new model Supremes may not have the drag issue I had, hard to know without taking a look at one. I have the previous models. I fish mine a lot too, have had a lot of fish pull drag so somebody that works full time and only gets out a couple of times a month may not have that issue for a long time.
curtisce Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I like the Presidents swore by them ,but John at Fin and Feather said their quality has gone downhill since they were boughtout by Berkley. Pre-buyout ones have wooden handles. Bass Pro this spring was selling Presidents for $40, I bought one, Illike them maybe their quality control isn't as good as it use to be. The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
