Just curious where did u run into them at? I have found them like that up above Roark and in coves above old state park before. I’ll take catching them any time! Between Mutton Creek and the State park on the East side of the Lake. They were constantly on the move to the south (up the Lake) herding the forage fishes as they went!
MrGiggles Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 They were tearing up the shad on Pomme last week too. Drop a spoon in the shade wake and it was a guaranteed fish on. -Austin
Old plug Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 It is a good time to watch your fish finder when shad are hitting like that. They slash a lot and kill more than they eat. When those shad sink they draw some large fish that sort of run around under the whites with there mouth open scooping the falling shad in. Good way to catch yourself a monster of any type of fish. The big ones tend to be deep fish except for a for short periods during the season. I have never caught a Hybrid over couple of more than a couple lbs on the surface where most anglers chase them. All my larger ones above 5-6 came from at least 15ft while the surface action with all the fisherman in tow was going on. I guess it happens but not for me.
Rootman Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Thx for the information, heading up Saturday to give it a try again, hopefully the cooler weather will improve the fishing

MOPanfisher Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Not a big white bass guy, but darn I love a surfacing school.of whites.
Old plug Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Yeah they are fun but 7-8 lb hybrids are a thrill my hybrid fishing buddy insist on catching them on 6 ft crappie rod with 6lb test line. They will make 4 or 5 good long runs on that outfit before we get them into a net. He had one last hear close to 8. We go almost every weekday evening from now till crappie get real good. Do not think we are catching them all the time a 6-8 lb'er is less then a few a season but we still catch a lot of the others. I will not chase them where they come in running up into a cove. So we just sit there and wait.Seems to me that way we seem to catch a lot of them before they break the surface and fill there mouth. After they do that they arr ready to go home for the most part.
CoolHandFluke Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 My Daughter sure enjoyed providing some Control! They taste best Grilled and made into fish Tacos. snagged in outlet 3, BilletHead, Walleyedmike and 1 other 4
slothman Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 I got to Stockton Thursday morning and we had whites surfacing all around us for as far as we could see in every direction for 2-3 hours. We tore the up with Zara Spooks. I was using a full sized spook and catching fewer, but a larger average size. My partner was fishing with a mini spook and was catching more and still decent sized fish. We loaded the boat in no time and continued to catch and release for a couple more hours. It was probably the best white bass experience I’ve ever had. Lots of fun catching them on top for hours. tho1mas, MOPanfisher, BilletHead and 3 others 6
