dnj21 Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 What a trip report, just outstanding! Thank you for sharing. How would you like to be the person who lands that Trout with the custom painted DD original in its mouth? Hopefully an OA guy that will appreciate what he has! I can see a whole market of fakes popping up an e-bay this weekend though- "Found floating down the Lake, assumed to be a DD original hand painted one of a kind. $200 opening bid!!" JestersHK Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 Back home and finally a shower lol. Although I was already soaked from fishing in the dang rain... I took the flyrod down by outlet 2. Stripping wooly buggers in the monsoon... Good news is my new rain jacket worked well. Bad news is I think my tippet was old and brittle as I broke off two nice fish. As for my gear this morning I was throwing 10lb spiderwire braid in smoothe green on my buggy whips... Retrieve was also slow for me. With short sharp jerks. Not quite as slow as when I'm wading, but we target the moving current more while being in the water. In the flat water this morning they liked the pause, and I sped my retrieve up as it got sunnier. We are coming down next week and although I won't be up that far after dark I have aspirations of possibly going to the short creek area and throw jerkbaits after dark but I wasn't sure if I should jerk them just like I do during the day or just reel them slow on the surface. I just haven't tried to fish at all after dark in the boat down there. Travis, I forgot to reply to this post earlier, but the areas we fished in were very navigable even in the dark with the fog. Trim your big motor up. You may bump some rocks, and maybe Duane can give ya more pointers. As long as you're not in a glass boat, I'd say put in at the MDC ramp, and go up from there. Most of the hammering took place pretty close to the ramp. First time out in the dark on a boat for me down there. Can't wait to do it again...
Travis Swift Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 my boat will be on a dock all week so I want to explore some other areas of the lake after dark. Thanks for the tips though I appreciate it! Great trip man and great report.....did one of those special jerkbaits accidentally make it home still tied to your rod by chance? JestersHK 1

If you remember you gave me a "dinky Doty" jig to try on my fly rod back in June. I still have that jig but it's since been retired. I caught so many fish on it that it finally basically got torn to shreds. Everything you make is top notch! Johnsfolly and BilletHead 2
JestersHK Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 I can neither confirm or deny if said jerk baits made it back with me! Phil Lilley, Johnsfolly, BilletHead and 1 other 2 2
Members ckjacks Posted September 3, 2018 Members Posted September 3, 2018 I'm no expert, but your walter looks like a sauger to me. Hard to tell without seeing if there is white on the tail or not.

Are there Sauger in Table Rock? Can't say I have ever caught one of those.
