Quillback Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Here's the BASS rule: . "An electric trolling motor may be used for slow maneuvering. However, trolling as a method of fishing is prohibited. The “Long-Lining” or “Strolling” technique is NOT allowed in either practice or competition and defined as intentionally using a trolling motor or outboard to mechanically extend a cast. No exceptions." FLW rule - Sounds like you can stand on your TM all day and drag your stuff around. "Trolling is defined as operating the combustion engine to extend a cast or lengthen a retrieve. "
Bill Babler Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 It's kind of funny, there is always an out or gray area. "Slow Maneuvering" Mike gave me the skinny that keeps you from crossing the line. Don't let any line out more than your initial cast and maneuver the bait. Good enough for me. I'm fishing for fun. Quillback Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Just for grins I've been checking out different tourney's rules on trolling - every one is different. Joe Bass does not mention trolling at all. Walleye guys are always complaining about those pesky bass eating their cranks - they should go fish Joe Bass. Royal Blue 1

As long as you're fishing a single rod, and it is in your hand the whole time that the bait is in the water, what difference does it make if the wind is blowing the boat or you are using the TM to move it? Trolling is quite different IMO. trolling is trolling whether you do it an electric motor or gas. many "trollers" do hold their rod in their hand in place of putting it in a rod holder. if everyone wants to troll, then take no trolling out of the rules and then there will not be an issue. bo
Bill Babler Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 It's not an issue now, unless people are really nit picking. Kind of like Mike told me today, if your have ever touched a trolling motor when you are fishing a jig or ever bumped a trolling motor while fishing a suspending stick bait in cold water, you have extended your cast and are trolling. Anyone that has never done either can throw all the rocks they want, but I believe the list of rock throwers is going to be pretty small. I'm done on this, should not have told folks about a good daytime bite. Did not know I was committing a federal crime or stirring up a big bucket of cow fodder. snagged in outlet 3, big c, Royal Blue and 1 other 4 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
fishinwrench Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 I ain't above some Cow Fodder fishin'. 😊 It's been my experience though, that if strolling a jig works then stroking the jig usually works better. Can't say I've ever seen a time when scooting a jig slowly along a flat gravel bottom is the only presentation that'll get bit. Even if so the same presentation can be made by casting/retrieving.....just not quite as efficient. So the info shared is still quite valuable.
